Lovely old pub in the middle of Edinburgh’s home town. The speciality is cask ale and some Scottish and international bottles. They seem to have summer and winter beer festivals and seem to get beers that other bars don’t. Would highly recommend it, though steak pie was a bit small.

Another of Edinburgh’s miracle of miniaturisation bars. A good ever changing selection of real ales. Not many places to sit and can become rammed with suits, but never an unpleasant place to drink, even when full. When quiet it’s a splendid hideaway for a pint in Scotland’s capital.

Traditional pub in a fascinating street. Pretty good selection of beer and a very good selection of whiskies. Nice atmosphere.

A great old skool gem in the heart of Edinburgh’s tourist area. Exceptional single malt whiskey selection, second to none there. Cask ales were prominent, conditioning was good. Acorn Citra IPA was well conditioned, no chemical residue or other issues, staff were exceptionally polite, beer was flowing and punters were game. This place got very packed very quickly so advise to go early for seats. For value wise it’s not too bad. There are some expensive whiskies here yes but they are world class. You pay for what you get as they say. The beer range was good and I was very happy to see a stout in August even though it wasn’t actually descent. Acorn Citra was a great relief from a hilly walk and a good example of single hop citra. Good venue and want to go back. Also cool old skool beer signs on the wall but classy not tacky ones.

Cosy little pub showcasing mainly British cask ales + malt whiskies. Can be a bit crowded with suits after work but very good all the same.

Visited 7/6/2011. Traditional pub with the walls covered in brewery memorabilia. Decent selection of ales and the barman was friendly and knowledgeable. Fairly quiet mid afternoon on a Tuesday, with a few tourists and lawyers having a quick break from the office. Very good.

Quaint little pub, good ale selection, but mobbed on the weekends.

I LOVE the Bow Bar. I’ve only been once, and it was late on a Sunday night, about an hour from closing time. I was expecting the staff to be grumpy and unpleasant, but I was pleasantly surprised. They were very happy to discuss beers with me, as were the clientele, and it made for a very pleasant evening. The bar is OLD SKOOL, but amazing. So. Much. Whisky. And the old fashioned taps are a nice touch. I could live here. Well worth a visit.
