After awhile all the German brewpubs start to get a sameyness about them, but this one stands out in the memory. It just has that extra bit of fairly dust sprinkled on it. From the locals drinking from their steins, to the clergy having a breakfast beer to the friendly fast and English speaking service. Only shame is there are not too many beers here for the ticker. For the drinker - well with that hat on I could happily while away a few hours here.

Visited during Jolly to Bamberg 2014. Visited early on a saturday and had a few nice beers. Not that crowded, but a nice atmosphere. Regulars had their own tale in the back corner of the place. We had a few draughts, and also bought a few bottles to go.Would like to visit again. Strange opening hours on saturdays!

Quiet when I visited, but this was early in the morning. Fairly large venue, so might get very busy and lively later in the evenings. A few of their own rauchbiers available as well as a few from other breweries. Fast service.

Visited, for the third time, on the Bamberg Post Xmas Blues Jolly for post breakfast beers a little after 1000 on Saturday 25th January 2014.
Wood panelled room with a few nic-nacs on the walls, large wooden bench tables, probably enough to seat 70/80 people when full.
The place was pretty quiet as you may expect with 3 or 4 other drinkers including a priest in the corner!!!
Service was prompt and friendly and our man spoke good English.
Bang opposite Fassla so just under 10 minutes walk to the HBF, and a little over 10 to Mahrs/Keesmann or the altstadt.
They also do accomodation here, never tried it.
Beer wise 3 vom Fassla plus 2 (different) bottles to go.
Solid Bamberg venue, solid subtle rausch biers.

The beer was good and the ambience was incredibly beautiful. I really wanted to like this place, but the service was downright off putting the one and only time I visited. The level of unfriendliness was in stark contrast to the welcoming atmosphere at Fassla right across the street. Spezial was not that special for me, but I hope that my
experience was just an aberration and would still recommend it for a place not to be missed in Bamberg. I just hope that others have a better experience than I did, as the other posts suggest that it is the norm.

Visted between Xmas and Silvester 2012. Go-to neighbour for tastier beers & food while staying at Fässla across the street. Ambiance can’t be beaten, as you will be sitting among hords of local patrons and troups of patres familias doing their after-hours or weekend pub tours, in a wood-paneled decor on benches constructed to mingle, maybe even next to the tiled stove and busy counter. Food as well as service typically "deftig"/sumptuous&down-to-earth, portions ample, their Rauchbier milder than some and their Ungespundetes spectacular. Great out-of-the city centre hub to start or end a tour into town.

Wood paneling and a very atmospheric place. Service was friendly, but spoke no English. Considering I do not speak any German beyond beer, I was proud of myself when I could rattle off the beers we drank for the waitress as she total our bill. I had goulash and my fiance had rouladen, and after four days in Germany, this was our best meal by far. If you only have time for one or two breweries in Bamberg, this should be one of them. j Larger selection than what you find in many breweries, and by larger, I mean 4-5 beers.

Traditional layout, almost exactly the same as a few other places in Bamberg. Very busy with a full biergarten on a sunny day, but the service is still friendly, quick and efficient. Great food and outstanding beer.

Lots of history in these walls, located right across the street from Fassla. Lots of local here as well, food looked great, but did not have any. Must stop in Bamberg.
