cwrwhughes (3), Baggillt, Flint, England does not count - explanation | | April 25, 2012 NO LONGER A BREWPUB AND HAS NOT BEEN FOR TWO YEARS. NO KNOWLEDGE OF WHERE BEERS ARE BREWED NOW | | EithCubes (158), , Germany | | April 20, 2012 A protected old dame of a building, currently hiding behind restoration scaffolding, more an inn-restaurant than a bar, with some beautiful features (the worn old staircase, the stripped wood tables and chairs, the more recent wall paintings). Waitress was friendly and had a little of the cheek I so enjoy, but her service was unacceptable: it wasn’t busy at all, but 35 mins between first and second check-ins (I was alone), ten minutes waiting for the ordered second drink, and the promise of a menu unfulfilled. Beers were fine, and if you’re into the ’Deep Cuts’ period of your Berlin beer ticking exploration, it’s easy and worth it to throw this onto the U7 crawl with neighboring Südstern. If you’re more pressed for time, avoid it. | | ekstedt (67), Göteborg, Sweden | | November 29, 2011 A nice but a bit rough place in Neukälln. Very crowded during our visit with a wedding party going on. Food and beer was ok, but with a bit limited selction. | | ogivlado (242), Zagreb, Croatia | | November 3, 2011 Very nice old building that looks like old public school or small factory. Two not so good beers and two very pissed waitresses. Not so many people, not so loud music, all in all quite uninteresting place. No proper glassware and we even didn’t get coaster under our glasses. Rate beers as fast as you can and go elsewhere. | | tomaz (12), , Germany | | February 24, 2011 Nice, but closing at 22.00... Deco is cool, did not try the food. Beer is typical, schwarz, pils,... Price is ok, maybe food is good, but this is a restaurant to go eat have some good beer, not a pub to spend the afternoon trying great beer. | | Svesse (139), Hässelby, Sweden | | November 10, 2010 Brewpub in the southern part of Berlin, within walking distance from U- and S-bahn station Hermannstrasse. Nice wooden interior, but since we visited on a hot July afternoon we settled for the large, but cozy beer garden. They had two of their own beers on tap: Helles and Dunkles, which were a bit average. Had the schweinshaxe to eat and it was quite delicious and came in generous portions. Service was friendly, but fiercely slow. | | fugitive (133), Athens, Greece | | October 18, 2010 Nice place with big beergarden. Only two beers availiable, service did not speak much english. Fast and polite service. Also have Weihenstephan. | | Ungstrup (335), Oamaru, New Zealand | | March 29, 2010 Be sure to type the streetname right - it is not Glasgower strasse, which also exists, but Glasower strasse. A pretty place, more like a restaurant than a brewpub, with pretty paintings on the stone wall, wooden tables and chairs. Only two own beer when we visited, but also found a cider in a bottle. | | Marko (169), Split, Croatia | | March 11, 2010 A great looking place located right in the middle of one of the seemingly less welcoming neighborhoods we’ve visited in Berlin. Seemed completely out of place. We actually came 10 minutes earlier than it was opening, the hours here are incorrect but I can’t fix them as I haven’t noted them. Anyway, it opens either at 3 or 4 PM on Mondays. It’s as nice on the inside as it’s on outside, and quite big, but it was decidedly empty on a Monday afternoon, we were the only ones in(!). The service was ok, the waitress didn’t speak English, though that can hardly be taken as a minus in this part of Berlin. They were out of the seasonals and the wheat, even out of a seemingly rare cider they had on the menu. What they did have was the two regular suspects, the Hell and Dunkel, both decidedly below average for Berlin standards, possibly just bad batches. Weell, I guess we didn’t have much luck with this one seeing the other rates but still, compared to the others, I can safely call this disappointing. Hopefully, my rating will be an anomaly. | | chriso (258), London, England | | November 20, 2009 The most impressive bar we visited in Berlin in terms of architecture and interior. Very cosy, with a traditional feel and not another tourist in sight (it is well off the tourist trail). Plenty of locals in evidence. Unfortunately there was only one of their own beers available - the Weissbier is bought in (although I’m not sure that they drew attention to that on the menu) and the Dunkel ran out just after I ordered it. To their credit they did give me what they had managed to pour before the keg kicked, which was enough to rate. As an aficionado of Schweinhaxe I have to say this was one of the biggest I have ever seen (and excellent). The waiter said it was one of the biggest he had ever seen too. Very friendly service, to the extent that the waiter (who wanted to practice his English) got into trouble for sitting down and chatting with us once we had finished eating. Quite easy to combine with a visit to Sudstern. |
