| BeerandBlues2 (358), Lone Tree, Colorado | | September 7, 2011 This is a very nice and new place in Blacksburg. It was packed though not as much as I expected following a home game. The service is very good. All the beers are solid, and there were 6 or 7 house beers. The food is well-prepared and quite tasty. | | robgibbens (15), Gaithersburg, Maryland | | July 12, 2011 This brew pub is pretty large inside the dining area and the bar is large. The decor is nice and the service was good. Food was above average but was a little expensive. The beers were all pretty good and I even bought two growlers. I got the sampler for dinner and it had all 9 beers, which was nice. | | LilBeerDoctor (185), East Setauket, New York | | January 1, 2011 Stopped by this sports bar/restaurant/brewpub on a Thursday afternoon. It’s located in a strip mall and appears to be a hangout for Virginia Tech fans. There were a fair amount of people dressed in VT garb for lunch (although I’m not sure why as there didn’t appear to be a game going on...). There are numerous TVs in the bar area. It’s a spacious place and the bar is pretty long. The bar has this frozen ice bar along it where you can rest your beer (I guess to keep it cool? I’ve never seen such a thing before). As one might guess, the place offers a number of BBQ meats. I had the chicken BBQ sandwich which was ok, although I had been expecting a little better...There were ~8 tap offerings mostly consisting of your standard offerings but the ones we tried were pretty tasty. Overall a nice place to go for lunch and some beers and seems like a good place to go to watch some local sports. | APHokie (6), does not count - explanation | | October 30, 2010 Hit or Miss....sometimes is great...sometimes is bad. Beer is pretty decent but expensive (you are paying to drink a "local" beer I guess.) BBQ sandwhich is probably the best thing they have. | | freekyp (31), Thomasville, North Carolina | | October 17, 2010 Upscale chain feel to this brewpub, sent in a shopping center. Good food, however, and well crafted brews. Big Virginia Tech college hangout. I went during a big home game and service sucked, but the beer was well crafted, if a little run-of-the-mill. | | obguthr (19), Poquoson, Virginia | | June 27, 2009 It is set in a new development of upscale boutiques. Outdoor seating is available. Beer is brewed and meat is smoked on site. The beer was decent and covered a variety of styles. Unfortunately, there were only 7 different beers at the time of my visit. Six are served year round and there is one seasonal, which for me was a hefeweizen. I missed their IPA which was offered in the spring. I’m hoping they add a Belgian to the rotation, since they don’t yet offer one. My black and blue burger was good and the kettle chips were great. The beer was reasonably priced and they offer a very affordable sampler of all beers. The food was priced higher. They also sell and fill growlers. Even though I live 300 miles away, I think I’ll go pour myself some of their dunkel right now! | | Zeswaft (110), Seattle, Washington | | May 21, 2009 wow, this is my 100th place rating. I’ve always made it a point to rate every beer place i go and i’m disappointed with myself that this is where i ended up at 100. Possibly one of the most mediocre brewpubs ever. Every single beer was pedestrian. If Budweiser tried to brew every one of these styles, which i’m sure they have and i’ve had, they’d taste exactly like these beers. otherwise, totally ordinary strip mall sports bar atmosphere. | iiaudio (1), Tennessee does not count - explanation | | May 18, 2009 The food is good, I had the Club sandwich which was very good and the beer was totally solid. The price was right (nothing over $4.50 a pint). My problem with the place is the service. There were three bartenders on duty at the time and the bar was maybe at 20% capacity. I’ve never had staff walk past my empty beer glass so often, the bartenders were to be too busy chatting with staff or with friends. To top it off, at the end of the night our bill was wrong. They didn’t keep our tabs straight and we were charged for beers we were not served. Luckily, KT, the bartender who was most attentive took charge of things and made things right. Overall the beer is really good, I’m glad I drank it. Service, not so much. If I need to spend the night near Blacksburg again, I’d give it another shot. | JamesD (6), Centreville, Virginia does not count - explanation | | April 12, 2009 I really liked this place. The beers are quite good, and reasonably priced. None of the beers are extremely adventurous, so just expect to find solid examples of usual styles. The bar has a very interesting contraption, a chilled strip of frost along the length of the bar to keep your beer cold. The food is also good if one is a fan of meat. I had cheese fries and the ribs, both of which went very well with my IPA. I also had one of the St. Maeve’s stouts, which was the best beer in my opinion.
This place is certainly worth a trip and I plan on going back. | | NachlamSie (358), Tennessee | | March 16, 2009 This is a large restaurant that has a predictable chain brewpub ambiance to it. The beers were surprisingly good, given my prejudgment, though they were not particularly adventerous. I had the Charleston crab bisque and the pulled pork sandwich, both of which were delicious and priced well. Our server was friendly and attentive. It is a good place to get some local beer and hang out. |
