70 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 sunevdj (45) Copenhagen OE, Denmark | March 24, 2013 Cool little spot. Place looks like a half finished bistro with an open kitchen. Food is french contemporary(?), Japanese sized dishes and delicious. The beers I had were good and the selection seems to have some different styles to have something for everyone. Still kinda quiet and mellow place. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 Westkyoto77 (4) Kyoto , Japan | January 30, 2013 Kyoto sorely needed a place like this, but I might wait until the warmer months until I sit on the first floor. The second floor is cozy, with a nice view out over Shijo Dori. Ten taps of ji-biiru from all over Japan, rotated fairly frequently. Food is tasty, if a little pricey. But all in all a great place to unwind on the way home from work. | 72 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 12/20 KansaiBeerLvrs (42) Kyoto, Japan | January 13, 2013 First off, I love the ambiance. Completely open to the street with a concrete floor and white tiled walls behind the bar plus an open kitchen. It has a really industrial feel which I like and being open to the street means it makes me feel a bit like I am back on a terrace in Montreal. Nice for people watching & lots of people do a double take as this kind of set up is not common in Japan.
The beer list changes frequently, I’ve had lots of nice stuff here but all Japanese microbrews. It would be nice if they opened up a few taps to foreign craft beers. The good thing is the taps change quite often so there’s always something new to try. It is a good place to try Japanese craft beers in Kyoto.
The prices are reasonable 600 yen for 10oz & 900 yen for 15oz. The staff are friendly, the food looks great and tastes very nice but the portions are a bit small for the price.
The staff are friendly, welcoming and talkative (in Japanese-no idea if they speak English). As mentioned, the location is great just a short walk west down Shijo fro Karasuma. This is one of my favorite places to drop by for a beer.
Especially when I see they have something cool on tap via their facebook page.
| 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 KyotoLefty (350) Kyoto, Japan | January 11, 2013 A smallish place open to busy Shijo street, with a pleasant enough vibe--staff and most customers are young and not beer geeks. On the south side of Shijo, a short walk from Hankyu Karasuma or Omiya, or Subway Shijo. 10 Japanese craft beers on tap--a well-chosen selection but nothing surprising. Prices are decent: 600 yen for 10.5 oz., 900 for 15 oz. (or so). Food is creative beer food, multi-ethnic, and good. Cafe-like atmosphere upstairs. A good place to stop in for a couple after work. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 mike12da (4) Osaka, Japan | October 16, 2012 Nice little place in a good location, a 10 minute walk west of the downtown area. Very well designed interior with great a few tables downstairs and standing bar. Very nice upstairs, nice enough for a date. 10 taps, all Japanese, nothing strong, but very good prices compared to most beer bars. Not a place that I expect to drink anything amazing, but at least a place where I can stop by for a decent beer with friends. | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 TimE (216) Tokyo, Japan | October 8, 2012 Stopped here on a Kyoto crawl. Beer list is OK, with some fairly random stuff, but nothing too rare (would be perfectly fine for a tourist, but just so-so for people who live in Japan). 2 floors, with a somewhat spacious upstairs. Exposed cement walls, open kitchen, kitchen utensils as tap handles. Reminded me kinda of a West Coast cafe/small pub. Only tried potato salad, but it was fantastic. Food looked good. Staff was good. Prices were reasonable, but I don’t believe the serving size is 16oz glasses. Definitely worth a stop if you are coming from overseas. |
