| AMcD (10), , | | May 2, 2012 Nice little bar for an afternoon snifter. Have been here on a couple of different occasions and was lucky to find St Bernardus beer on draft. | | Ibrew2or3 (248), Phoenix, Arizona | | April 27, 2012 This seems to be a bit off the touristy zone, at least the main area, where you can stop in here for a peaceful sip of brew under the dangling roses hanging from the ceiling overhead. This place has soft worn in creaky wood floors, tables and chairs. This was a very welcome environment as I sat pondering a beer in front of me with my friend sebletitje across the table even when you notice the prices of some of the beer offerings. I mean 51 euro for a half liter Mikkeller BA Beer Geek Brunch Weasel and 60 Euro of the Armand #4 . . . craziness. Overall this place has equaled the selection of most places around here if not a bit better save Struise of course. I look forward to coming back and spending more time here. | | sebletitje (200), Enghien, Belgium | | April 21, 2012 Visited with Dave/Ibrew2or3.
By far my favorite bar in Brugge. Finally a bar outside of the tourist ways, not overly crowded, and a very interesting decor with the fitting theme of red roses.
Loved the old wooden interior/floor, clean and friendly atmosphere.
Beer selection is decent though not overly complex. Sadly, the whole atmosphere side is brought down by excessively expensive beers. 51€ for a beer geek weasel bourbon? seriously? 60€ for Armand 4? to cite a few.
Granted there are a few choices around 2€50-4€ the pricing is hard to swallow. | | Forsberg_dk (15), , Denmark | | April 17, 2012 A very cozy place that has a nice overall selection, very friendly service and it is a very nice place to hang out in generel. A must visit in brugge imo. | | BlackHaddock (175), , England | | April 2, 2012 I heard about this place on a few beer sites and word of mouth, so though I’d give it a go: glad I did. Brugge has in my opinion already got some world class bars, this place can be added to that list. It’s on a semi-back street but easy to find and get to from anywhere in the centre of Brugge.
It was an early evening in December Saturday when we visited, the bar being fairly busy, the clientele being mostly well dressed couples talking quietly while having a beer or two before dining elsewhere (no food here). We sat and I picked up the beer menu on our table, a young lady came over and informed us that St Bernadus Christmas was on-tap, along with Chimay Blonde: I put the menu down again and ordered a glass on each tap brew. The beers arrived in their correct glasses and I perused the beer menu at leisure while sipping my 10% Christmas beer, so, so moreish, but also too strong this early in the evening to stay drinking. They major on Trappist beers with others also available, didn’t count the total numbers but there were enough bottles to keep a normal beer geek happy for a day or two. So the beer list has grown in the last year: the last reviewer posted, back in November 2010 about the selection being extended. A couple of chalk boards advertised special brews, I noted that La Trappe Oak Aged Quadruples (Lots, 3,4,5 and 6) were priced at Euro 28 for a cork and caged 37.5cl bottle, ouch! Rudi in De Bierboom had given me a Lot 6 and Lot 7 for free earlier in the day, so no need for me to break the bank.
The bar room was lovely, single red roses hang from the ceiling and everywhere was clean and obviously well looked after, polished wood everywhere you looked. A group of British ladies came in while we were there, they had been in the day before and had returned festooned with parcels from shopping: they couldn’t remember what they’d been drinking, but wanted the same one again, the staff knew and all was well.
My must visit while in Brugge bar list just keeps growing; this is a worthy addition and with some of the better known bars (like De Garre and ‘t Bruges Beertje) becoming just too popular and over busy at times this is a good alternative while in the city centre.
| | prawlie (36), , England | | March 17, 2012 Very good beer menu, nice atmosphere and good service. | bacchanalia (6), milton, England does not count - explanation | | September 6, 2011 Great little place, we actually stayed there as well but the bar has a really well thought out, outstanding beer list. No where near the most beers but definitely an excellent selection. Staff were friendly & knowlegedable. I was only there during the day when it was pretty empty, but I liked the ambiance anyway. | | minist (10), , England | | August 17, 2011 Really nice place, love the roses on the ceiling! They had an offer where if you buy two Mont Des Cats, you get a free glass! | jmart041 (2), , does not count - explanation | | June 24, 2011 Great terrace out back. Decent selection. | | fugitive (133), Athens, Greece | | June 20, 2011 Very nice place with great decor. Small selection of beers that includes all the trapist beers even Westy you can find. |
