| LSUPT (10), Louisiana | | October 11, 2011 This is the place to buy beer in Baton Rouge. It’s a grocery store so not much ambiance. I’ve never really had anyone offer help when I’ve been in but I know that there are knowledgeable employees present. Selection is the best in the city. Nothing too out of the ordinary but they have all the good craft that is available in LA. It can be a bit pricey though, especially on singles. Marcello’s is good and offers more beer friendly environment, but Calandro’s is the place to go. | abitadude (2), Louisiana does not count - explanation | | July 9, 2011 Best place I’ve found in Baton Rouge to get beer; by far the best selection that I’ve seen in Baton rouge. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. | | Mora2000 (52), Dallas, Texas | | December 26, 2010 [ Updated July 28, 2011 ] Nice supermarket with a very nice beer selection. Not sure how it compares to other stores in Baton Rouge, but it has a lot of beer we don’t get in Texas. The employee in the beer section was very knowledgeable and said he could order things that were not on the shelves. Some of the beer highlights were beers from Jolly Pumpkin, Amager and Nogne O. They also had a lot of beers from Shmaltz (both Coney Island and He’Brew) as well as a few surprises from breweries such as Fort Collins and Stevens Point (had no idea they were distributed this far southeast). The store also has a full selection of spirits - root beer schnapps anyone? - as well as a huge selection of Louisiana hot sauces. A store I will definitely visit again in the future. | | TheDutchman (11), Louisiana | | November 3, 2009 Fantastic beer selection for a grocery store. Not quite as many as Martin’s but more than Whole Foods. Like many of the places in Baton Rouge that have a good beer selection this place is geared more towards the wine crowd. | cgregory (3), Belchertown, Massachusetts does not count - explanation | | March 19, 2009 [ Updated September 11, 2009 ] A grocery that happens to have a fantastic beer selection (for LA, at least). Both guys that work in the wine/beer section are very friendly and know their stuff. The selection is on par with anything you’ll find in LA; certainly the best in BR. Prices are right. Overall, this is the best place to shop for beer in the city. | | PorterPounder (219), Tallahassee, Florida | | May 17, 2005 [ Updated June 8, 2005 ] Great little gourmet type grocery store with a wide selection (for Louisiana) of great beer. Found Thomas Hardy, Rochefort 8 & 10, Abbey du Rocs Grand Cru to name a few. Probably at least 200 different beers. Check out the hot sauce selection - there are some hilarious ones there - the names of some cannot be printed here! - references to particular body parts etc! Will be a regular stop during my stay here in Baton Rouge. |
