| zizzybalubba (68), Elizabeth City, North Carolina | | May 17, 2012 Cascade Brewing Barrel House is a brewpub that is a destination because of the quality of many of its beers. The location is good, located on SE Belmont Street. Service was great; friendly, attentive, knowledgeable (I found this to be true of Portland as a whole). The selection was great featuring many brewpub exclusives. The food was good and both the food and beers were reasonably priced. Overall this is yet another must visit when in Portland, especially if you are a fan of sour beers. | | Dixonian (79), Dallas, Texas | | May 2, 2012 Visited on a Sunday evening. Cool little tasting room with barrels sticking through the walls. I had a pulled pork sandwich that had a house made sour ale sauce and was quite tasty. Ran through 2 sets of samplers and really didn’t have a bad beer all night. If you are a sour fan this is a must stop. | | maekchu (11), Hirakata, Japan | | April 8, 2012 Large, spacious interior area, with an extensive patio out front right on the street. They had 22 taps going. Two of them were one-time-only single casks, 55 gallons fruit- infused and aged. This is the place for aged sour beers; they had many types to try -- some aged 12. 16, or 24+ months.Tasters available. Bottle sales, too (they also sell bottle-shaped bubble wrap packs for those who are traveling). Didn’t try the food, though it looked appetizing: charcuterie, hummus, soups, salads, and desserts. Certainly will stop here next time in Portland. Just a ten-minute walk from Hair of the Dog, too. | | douglas88 (117), Salt Lake City, Utah | | March 25, 2012 Very cool place. Open and inviting. Tons of Cascade stuff, maybe more than 15 on tap. The service was good and the staff knowledgeable. Pretty busy at times. Very cool and a great place to hangout. The food was good, not typical pub fair. | | ApisAles (42), Greenbelt, Maryland | | March 24, 2012 If you’re into sour beers this place should be a must stop if you’re in Portland. Nice corner location with a good vibe. It was pretty crowded on a Thursday afternoon, but they were doing their Blueberry realease and a lot of folks seemed like they were there for that. Found a plce at the bar and ordered a taster of 4 beers for 8 bucks which is really reasonable. Enjoyed all I tried and then asked which ones I shouldn’t miss. Had another two tasters. All were very good to excellent. I didn’t try the food, but the stuff coming out of the kitchen looked great. 100% worth a visit. Wish I lived closer. | | Bigsilky (10), Charleston , | | March 17, 2012 Bright, clean, and open. Actually ran in to some sunshine on a Friday with seating out on the patio. Almost overwhelming. Really, every sort of strange and sour including the non-sour stuff that seems to be as hard as anything to find. Prices are very good, considering what I usually pay for sour stuff this is heaven. Everything available as a $2 sample and a very welcoming staff that doesn’t treat me like an asshole for ordering 4 of them at a time. Food was excellent and very well priced. Dork fat? A mixture of pork and duck fat! Live barrels: means that you drink right from the wood. Plan on either A. Spending a lot of time one afternoon, or B. Make several trips in. A new happy place for damn certain. | | BrewDad (360), Olympia, Washington | | January 15, 2012 Just a few words here this is MUST Stop. They have something special going on here Great service great beers and the food is pretty tasty also. The tour will make you a fan for life. | | BOLTZ7555 (56), Phoenix, Arizona | | January 1, 2012 Dark, somewhat dingy location that had some pretty damn good beer. Had a gose and unique sour but the food was below average and service could use some work. Love Cascade brews but wouldn’t visit again if in the area. | | 1FastSTi (102), Glendale, Wisconsin | | December 30, 2011 The service was pretty terrible with the waitress not understanding our order after the kitchen ran out of things. It’s like she didn’t care that she was working there. Beer was pretty decent. And so was the food. The fromage plate had some good Wisconsin and Oregon cheeses on it. The pickled quail eggs were decent. The spiced mulled sour cherry ale was a fantastic way to serve that beer and that should be done year round. It was a bit over priced for samples. | | notalush (256), Denver, Colorado | | December 16, 2011 A nice little modern beer hall with an astounding selection of sour ales on tap - the beers are seriously hit or miss, but thankfully there are 20 of them on tap - however, at the prices they charge, making the wrong choice can hurt the wallet a bit - they have tasters, but they are fairly small (probably 3 ounces) and range from 2-2.50 - considering prices at the other places in town, this is a rather expensive place to drink - staff is attentive and knowledgeable - it’s a nice spot, but the brewers need to work on consistency. |
