| Onenote81 (72), Winston-Salem, North Carolina | | May 3, 2012 Originally reviewed: 9/14/09. Wow! This is the one and only place to get your beer when in the area. An entire wall is dedicated to single bottles of beer, all separated by style. Another rack is 6-packs only, and there’s even a small cooler section if you want to take your beers straight to the beach for consumption. Chip offers a very wide selection of brews at very reasonable prices. Many of his single bottles are less then $1.99, which is hard to find where I come from. I even found the new Stone Vertical for only $7.99! I spoke with Chip a little bit and he was very nice and helpful. I told him this was the most recommended beer stop for the area by BA, and he was very happy about that. I will return here again and again when I get back to this area. Highly recommend. | | Braudog (611), Hampton, Virginia | | March 24, 2012 My wife and I discovered this place by accident and were glad we did. It’s right on the main drag in and out of the Outer Banks, and is an excellent place to pick up the best craft and import selections around. I found a few goodies here that I can’t get across the state line in Virginia, and the guy working (owner?) was super cool, well informed, beer savvy and low key. Most definitely worth a visit! | | obxdude10 (99), Pottstown, Pennsylvania | | August 28, 2011 Great newer store on the Outer Banks to stock up on a variety of different beers. The selection is way above average. The service is excellent, as the gentleman behind the counter engaged me in a very informative conversation, epsecially about the local brewing scene. Chip’s also had a very nice selection of wines. So besides booze, it’s pretty much a one-stop shop for alcohol on the Banks. The store was very clean and well organized. I could have definitely seen myself spending way more than I did in this place! This will definitely be a go-to place for me when I’m on the Outer Banks! | | emeinz (25), Minnesota | | July 13, 2011 Was out in NC for vacation and stopped here on recommendation from Ratebeer.com. I really enjoyed the experience. There is a lot of great beers that I cant get back home in MN.The had an excellent selection of Terrapin beers that I absolutely love. I would recommend stopping at Chip’s. The staff was friendly and very helpful. They were more than welcome to answer my questions | | adam42381 (30), Fort Myers, Florida | | October 4, 2010 The wife and I were in the Outer Banks for a wedding this past weekend so I decided to check out BeerFly to see what, if any, good beer stores were in the area. When I saw the reviews for Chip’s Wine & Beer Market I knew we had to stop by.
The store is very well stocked and the staff was friendly and seemed knowledgeable. I was really only looking to pick up a six pack to put in my suitcase so I wanted to get some brews that aren’t available in Florida. I ended up getting 3 from Founders, 2 from Duck-Rabbit and Modus Hoperandi from Ska Brewing. I was very happy with these.
My only disappointment was when I asked if they had any Founders Breakfast Stout in stock and was told that they didn’t have it yet but they would be getting a case of Kentucky Breakfast Stout in stock next week which is one week too late for me! They were supposed to get it on Thursday but it was not in their latest shipment.
I would highly recommend Chip’s to anyone visiting the Kitty Hawk area of the Outer Banks. | | nickd717 (80), San Francisco, California | | September 8, 2010 This is my go-to beer store when I’m in OBX, as it should be for anyone. A real oasis in this beer desert. Prices are pretty reasonable, especially considering it must be tough to get good craft beer distributed out here. The service is excellent - Chip and the rest of the staff are very friendly and helpful. A nice selection, especially for the area, with both room temp and cold beers available, a large wall selection arranged by style, and almost everything available in singles. The place is designed so that the beer doesn’t get hit with too much sunlight. Glassware and shirts are also available. I have Chip’s to thank for many quality OBX ticks. | | zizzybalubba (68), Elizabeth City, North Carolina | | November 29, 2009 Recently visited Chip’s while at the Outer Banks. Mostly a wine store but there is certainly a good amount of space devoted to beer (I don’t know exactly but I would say this is about 75% vs. 25% wine to beer). The beer selection is very good and well stocked. The store is very clean and seems orderly. The people in the store seem to know their beer. The prices seem in line with other stores in the general area. Within a 75 mile radius, at least, you will not find a better selection. A must if you are visiting the Outer Banks. | | Elwood (83), Leesburg, Virginia | | October 6, 2009 I saw the ad for Chip’s in a local magazine and thought it would be worth a stop. Chip is very knowledgeable and friendly. A very good selection of beers and a decent selection of glassware too. Prices were good and you had the ability to mix and match singles of just about everything. Certainly worth a stop if you are in the area. | | Brewbie (11), New York | | August 27, 2009 Not a real easy place to find but worth seeking out. Chip is very friendly and knowledgeable. Very willing to help you out or just leave you alone to wander. Couple full rows of beer, mix and match sixer’s. Picked up a bunch of Bell’s I can’t get in my neck of NY. | | mwelsh13 (23), Maryland | | July 31, 2009 Nice little shop om a non-descrip strip mall. Beer is definitely a small area but nicely set up by style. Really good selection of singles to make your own six pack. Prices not overly bad for a beach town. Nice to see super fresh Two Hearted (bottled in mid July). Other nice beers like Stone Anniv, Old Rasp XII, and Sahti. Chip was helpful and a cool cat to talk to. Will go one more time to stock up on Bells. |
