| TimE (130), Tokyo, Japan | | October 5, 2009 Nice spacious atmosphere, much more modern than most Edinburgh pubs. Decent selection of some obscure Scottish/UK beers. Really good staff. Beer condition was very fine. | | RuneStumo (19), FØRRESFJORDEN, Norway | | September 20, 2009 [ Updated September 22, 2009 ] 19.09.2009. Nice small pub. They had a lot of local beer on tap. I tried a lokal Stewarts Pentland IPA and a Island Bere from Shetland. | | thewolf (123), Kolding, Denmark | | August 4, 2009 I must say that I was a bit underwhelmed. Noisy, crowded and with rather poor-quality beers. There are many, I’ll give them that, but when they are the usual suspects, I wouldn’t bother walking slightly out of town for this again. | | Rune (87), Tromsø, Norway | | December 23, 2008 Outstanding drinking place with an unpretentious atmosphere and lots of pubcos. Visited by different kinds of people. On Sundays guests come from service at the nearby church to have a couple of good pints here. Broad selection of ales, including Hole Grale from Stewart Brewing. Open at 12.30 on Sundays. | | cgarvieuk (24), Edinburgh, Scotland | | November 18, 2008 [ Updated September 25, 2009 ] Oh i cant belive ive not rated this. This is now my (work)Local. there a few lunchtimes every week. 9 taps 5 changing and 4 fixed (Stewart Holy grail, Tim Taylor Landlord, Cairngorm Tradewinds, deuchers IPA). Beer always top notch. Very friendly... This is my TOP equal choice of Edinburgh bar (along with the Bow Bar) the 5 Guest Taps Change frequently, through a wide and varied selection | | pivnizub (273), Bochum, Porúří, Germany | | August 16, 2007 Friendly people, good selection of well-kept cask-ales, relaxed atmosphere - what do You need more after a busy day in Edinburgh ? This is right place to spend the evening........... | | Magicdave6 (50), London, England | | June 19, 2007 A nice cosy looking pub. 8 ales i believe, even had a crouch vale beer in. Decent service and whisky selection. One to go back to. | | MartinT (348), Montreal, Quebec | | January 11, 2007 A very impressive building and interior succeed in making you feel at home while you gaze at all the attractive nooks and crannies. People were quite quiet here even though all tables were taken, and most of them by people in their twenties, creating a meditative atmosphere. Food is typical Scottish pub food, hefty portions of heavy foods. The toad in the hole I had (sausages in some kind of dough) was decent and absurdly filling. Not expensive either. Note that they serve meals from 12 to 6pm only. Beer selection was fun and ample too and the bartenders really friendly and knowledgeable. I happened to be staying the Tollcross neighborhood of Edinburgh while visiting, so this pub was an easy walk for me. Otherwise, follow Gazza’s advice and you’ll get there in no time. A fine Scottish pub experience! | | Gazza (136), Worcester, England | | September 6, 2006 Sister pub to the Bow Bar and housed in a most attractive church-type building, this excellent place is a bit out of the way and so attracts very few tourists but is easy to reach using the frequent buses which pass close by; try the 24 for a direct service or anything from 11, 15,16,17,23 or 45 which go along Home Street just a few minutes away.
The food is very good and, as befits the sister pub of the Bow Bar, the beer is excellent too with a decent selection, if not quite as interesting as the Bow. |
