Now smartened up and beer-focused, the ex-County Arms is now a welcome addition to the north side of the city. It’s Everards, but only Tiger on the bar with three other cask beers (including two Calverley’s, with which the Architect has a strong connection). Keg and bottle not all that exciting but you may get a tick or two. I’d be remiss if I didn’t warn you about the uncomfortable cafeteria-style metal chairs, which are about as welcoming as a genital wart. Decor aside, however, this is one worth visiting: they look after their beers well. and the staff know their onions.

Decent pub grub, but you may as well cross the road to the Castle if you want that, or have a curry in one of the many nearby curry houses. Everards is even less of a pull than Adnams for me, but they do have more guest beers. Lovely building, perhaps a bit light, and not so cosy interior, even though they’re trying to make it comfortable - it’s just a bit big to feel homely. Used to be the place to go for the pub quizzes in town, dunno if that’s still true.

Anglická klasika, nemohu si pomoct ale tento lokál mi nepřijde ničim vyjimečný. Neni ovšem vůbec špatný. Jen neni vyjimečný.

Carpets, nice dining tables, overpriced beer (Ł1.90 for a half pint of low ABV Everards?). The range of Everards beers isn’t particularly good at the best of times, so a pub dedicated to their mediocrity is starting with a considerable handicap. The pub itself is fairly attractive, but the beer certainly is not a draw. The pub is located quite close to The Castle Inn so if you’re keen to visit both pubs you won’t need to apply yourself very much to make that happen.
