Top pub along the Kennett-Avon Canal, featuring Box Steam beers. Old and rambling, with lots of character. Beers in great condition, too. Great outside garden area down the hill to the river. A great country pub.

One of the highlight pubs of this part of Somerset. Really a must-stop if walking or cycling this section of the Kennet-Avon canal. Very close to Bradford on Avon--so if pressed for time can take the train or bus there from Bath and then walk the 20-30 minutes. The building itself is absolutely splendid inside: old with tons of country kitch and cavernous. Yet it has a youthful feel. The real highlight, though, is the beer--they were (at the time anyway) showcasing beers from a very small brewery Box Steam. You could do growlers, bottles, or pints--and these were excellent brews in good condition. The place serves food all day (we just got the Ploughmans but they do fancier stuff), and they also have several terraces of picnic benches where in good weather you can picnic right on the river--literally can dangle your legs in the Avon while sipping a pint and gnawing on some bread & cheese. Lovely spot.

A canal side pub between Bradford-on- Avon and Bath, with a pretty garden overlooking the water. Sells Box Steam beers, of which I thoroughly enjoyed the Reverend Awdry and Tunnel Vision, plus Moor’s highly-rated Old Freddy Walker. Worth visiting if in the area.
