| MMR (10), , Netherlands | | March 13, 2012 Very nice place, cozy decorated with a great seletion of beers. | | erickok (36), Leiden, Netherlands | | January 18, 2012 Typical Dutch bistro with fairly speedy service, even though the place was packed with people. Tried their own beers of course (which are average) but they also offer some well known Belgian stuff. Food is very unpretentious, fairly well priced and quite tasty. As a beer place though it’s not amazing - but as a stop for some food it serves just fine. (On Borresteijn’s Amsterdam (RB) Brewpub-crawl) | | Plovmand (49), Helsinge, Denmark | | December 6, 2011 Quite big but cosy old fashioned looking pub. Ok beer selection and the food is decent. | | baxterfish (125), , England | | September 28, 2011 Pretty good place. Been coming here since 1993 and it’s maturing nicely. The beers are not bad. Worth a look along with the excellent Loosje a few doors along. | | deanso (103), the Hague, Netherlands | | May 17, 2011 nice atmosphere. decent service. could do with a good dark beer, they have no stouts or porters. | | Boudicca (205), London, England | | April 23, 2011 [ Updated September 16, 2011 ] This restaurant-cum-pub is part of a small chain (Beiaard). It’s on a canal close to the main red light area of central Amsterdam. We visited on a busy Thursday evening (31 March); it was packed, mainly by revellers taking a break to eat, and very noisy. It was difficult to get a feel for the place but my overall impression was of several rooms, which may have been cosy on a quieter night, at the front and a large open area like a run-down school canteen at the back. We perched ourselves on the only free seats in the place, right at the end of the bar by the taps.
We ordered all three of their own beers. They may have been a witte, a blonde and a tripel but they all looked like dirty dishwater and, to my mind, didn’t taste much better although my taste buds were probably just having a bad reaction to their appearance and to the general atmosphere. The truculent demeanour of the barman summed it up for me really – this didn’t seem like a place where any pride is taken in the beers or where there’s any real interest in the customers who might want to try them.
| | chriso (258), London, England | | April 11, 2011 [ Updated April 15, 2011 ] Didn’t really go a bumdle on this place. Very busy when we visited, mainly with people eating, so we had to find a perch at the very end of the bar. Even sat right in front of the bar tender, service was slow and disinterested. Then, after waiting for 10 minutes to get served, the bar tender seemed nonplussed by my ordering three beers (that is all those brewed on the premises) between two of us. Their own beers were rather mediocre and they didn’t seem to be making much effort to promote them over the run-of-the-mill (mainly Belgian) guest beers. The whole vibe was rather lacklustre. The position, in a busy spot on the edge of the red light district probably meant that the majority of the clientele didn’t give a hoot about the beers brewed on the premises and this seemed to have rubbed off. Maybe caught it on a bad night but there wasn’t really much reason to go back. Meant to give one of the other Beeiard places a go to see if things were better there but never got round to it. | | nate2g (320), Marlborough, New Zealand | | March 22, 2011 Feels a little more relaxed such as a cafe than a brewpub. Had my first beers in Amsterdam here. The house beers are just OK with one being horrible. The staff are friendly and pleasant service. Unfortunately the food left much to be the desired, being served cold and bad presentation and taste. Pop in to try the beers at least. | | SudsMcDuff (112), .....Manchester United.........., Texas | | February 21, 2011 Went on my last beer day in the Dam .. . very quiet with the exception of a few couples and some old farts who seemed to not like a young guy entering ’their’ bar, so i sat as far away by the brewing equipment until i was told that that area was closed..? .. place was a bit dirty, the waitress was annoyed she had to serve me, and the beers were decent but not at all world class .. . Happy to have visited but even happier i didn’t actually go out of my way for this up-scale dump .. | | Wim (13), Weelde , Belgium | | January 30, 2011 [ Updated February 28, 2011 ] nice brewpub ad amsterdam a good service his own beer is good beer his selection good more reaselbie small more ok nice place |
