| bierkoning (212), La Tropica, Netherlands | | May 5, 2012 Cozy restaurant. Slowish but friendly and knowledgable service. Affordable prizes. Absolutely world class beer list. Great food. Too bad I had to limit myself, being the designated driver. I’ll be back with public transport for more vintage beers and more food, and I’ll patienly ignore the classical music in the background. | | gyllenbock (90), Stockholm, Sweden | | April 26, 2012 Visited on a Sunday in March 2012.
The location is about 30 minutes by train from Brussels Central Station and then around 15 minutes walk from the station.
The place was packed with locals around noon when we arrived. The decor was simple and homely.
Food was good and affordable. The beer list is very interesting with quite alot of rare stuff, especially different lambics. We ordered a bottle of Cantillon Crianza Helena (75cl 50 EUR). Also drank Rodenbach Alexander, Westvleteren blond among others.
A must visit when visiting Brussels, a pity that we cant see places like this in Sweden. I would love to return. | | gEUS (17), Linden, Belgium | | April 14, 2012 A great place if you are found of vintage beers. The list is just incredible! Food equally incredible :-) and lots of choice, well presented and perfect match with the beers they paired the dishes with. | | Mathieu87 (59), Ganshoren, Belgium | | April 9, 2012 Lovely place to visit. Had the Orvalliflette, paired with a 2 year old Orval, just lovely. Great (even bit too big) selection of food and an amazing beer-list (especially the vintages). Had a Ne Janneman, Chimay Bleue 2002 and a Rodenbach Alexander.
Amazing experience. Will go back asap :D | Barrelbelly (7), , Belgium does not count - explanation | | March 28, 2012 Very nice selection of beers. The servie was very friendly and the food was really refined. The beers served with the dishes ftted all perfectly. Very good value. | | Scopey (150), Croydon, England | | February 7, 2012 I finally visited this place for the first time as part of my Pre-Wedding Celebrations. We took the train in from Brussels Midi to Liedekercke (40mins) and walked to the venue (15-20mins). The ambience is perfect - traditional, laid-back Belgian countryside restaurant. Unsurprisingly for its reputation the staff are very knowledgeable on all things beer-related. Service was friendly, if a touch slow at times. Food was extensive, delicious and good value. So the most important part- the beer selection, which is second to none! They have a comprehensive selection on tap, which included lambics, Rodenbach Vintage and a few house beers. The vintage bottle selection is what it’s all about, at this visit I opted for some Crianza Helena, Rodenbach Alexander, Petit Orval amongst others. All served in their matching glass and perfectly conditioned from the cellar. We spent all day there and I know that was just the tip of the iceberg. I hope to return many times in the future! | | cpetrone84 (34), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | January 12, 2012 Stayed here for 3 days and 2 nights in the back apartment type rooms. The people were amazing, they spent both evenings with us until they needed to eat and go to sleep. Closed it out both nights long into the wee hours. They shared bottles that had not been released and were just a treat to hang out with. The selection was fantastic and reasonably priced for the vintage lambic we were drinking. The food was very solid. The people were second to none, the beer selection was awesome, and they had good food. Must go! | | F_radar (30), Paris.Bxl.Geneve, France | | December 27, 2011 Beau service, belle cuisine, vieux millesimes a prix abordable, selection etendue avec queles belles bieres maison. A tester sans aucun doutes
| | Rastacouere (581), Montréal, Quebec | | November 8, 2011 Do you know of another beer café with 3 beer menus? Never mind its unexpected location, De Heeren is the ultimate celebration of everything related to Belgian beer. Even though we visited on a regular Friday afternoon, the place was packed with locals. The relaxing restaurant sits probably 50 people or so, but a large beer garden may considerably increase the capacity. The bar area is also well separated and can probably handle another 20. Everything here contributed to making your visit an experience. Enough has been said about the selection, which, between the vintage list that rivals that of Kulminator, the huge lambic list and the exclusivities is among the best on the planet. The prices of the rarer stuff are certainly cheaper than in Brussels and the most expensive bottles I have not necessarily seen at cheaper prices elsewhere. Some people find the food expensive. I was not too concerned about that since my girlfriend’s lasagna was exquisite and my fish risotto, extraordinarily refined. The food was definitely a highlight of the place, with the menu being so very long and loaded with creativity. They have a fine chef there and he toys with beer, what more you can want? To top it all, the service was efficient, friendly and very informative, showing great care to our well-being, discussing the beers, discussing the relative merits of J&J from the fridge or from the cellar. Captivating conversations with real experts. One of the rare places in which a mere visit becomes an experience. | | MrChopin (89), Baltimore, Maryland | | November 6, 2011 [ Updated November 8, 2011 ] A trek to get to... unless you sleep there (beware the closets, full of costumes)! The long benches that line the walls facilitate conversation between us and at least 2-3 groups of local beer lovers, the low ceilings and lights provide an intimate country setting, and the patio outback provides the final relief: drinking lambic as the sun sets across your face. Amazing service over two days of gluttony, pandering to our every request for 3-4 beers at once as we worked through the endless list, vintage, regular, draft... one high quality beer after another. The food was not quite as stellar but still fantastic, hearty, filling and fresh. Hosts stayed up late, sharing beers not on the menu until 2a. Worth whatever trek you have to make to get here and away from any distractions, so enjoy your time while here; it isn’t found elsewhere. |
