| Radek Kliber (72), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Poland | | December 23, 2011 Recenntly renovated place. Good number of beers ofered but many of those sat there for years. | | kubilai (12), , Quebec | | September 23, 2011 Great selection of local brewers but a bit overpriced. Can find some pretty old/hard to find stuff. The place looks like it haven’t been clean since a while. Combined to this impression, the freshness of their products is questionnable. Service is relax and friendly. Two steps from the Dieu du Ciel. | caiuslarrius (1), California does not count - explanation | | February 20, 2011 I searched for a place like this for a couple of years. Found Rahman 5-6 years ago and stopped searching. I suppose other places like this have spawned everywhere but, this is still the place to go.
This place doesn’t look good. There is nothing fancy here. There is a lot of beers here at the cheapest price in town. It’s easy to compare on "normal" stuff, harder on other stuff (hard to find). I bought all their stock on "Schoune Gueuze" 2 years ago (7 bottles) and have yet to see those anywhere else.
I go there 3-4 times/year just to fill up the beer fridge. Lighter beers in spring/summer, darker/heavier beers in autumn/winter. I buy "normal" beers (like Boreale) at the grocery store occasionnally. But Rahman has those "normal" beers at a cheaper price than everyone in town.
Can’t understand why other people’s comments say things like "high prices". The prices are very low (but a 750 ml Gueuze will still be around 10 $, which can be intimitating for the non-connaisseur).
"they don’t speak french", that might be tru. I haven’t tried speaking french there. When i go into that part of town, i don’t expect to be spoken to in french. The address is "151 Laurier West", it’s on the small part of Laurier between St-Laurent and the Mont Royal. Everyone speaks english in every shop on that street, it’s normal.
I feel they do their best to offer a variety of beers to every customer at a very reasonnable price.
| | cfrancis (58), Ottawa, Ontario | | May 20, 2010 I was disappointed going into this place. Nice hot day and the store was hotter than outside. Storing beer in a hot area isn’t a good idea. They had a lot of older stuff that you can’t find at other deps but you also pay for it. I found they were significantly higher prices than other stores in Montreal. Selection is good with most Quebec micros and most seasonals. | duffbeerfan (8), does not count - explanation | | March 10, 2010 If you want to buy beer for a cheap price, try this convenience store. You’ll get beers available at any supermarket cheaper, but also there’s almost any kind of local beer in Quebec. it is situated close to Dieu du Ciel brewery so you can expect to find some of theirs there.
The ambiance there makes you feel like you are... in cosmopolitan Canada. Check it out! | ScoobySnacks (1), does not count - explanation | | February 12, 2010 The orignal in Montreal to promote micro & imported brews even when the SAQ had a monopoly on most imported beer distribution. A true pioneer even though the owner does not even drink! Santé! | | godofsky (15), Montréal, Quebec | | January 4, 2010 this is the place i buy most of my beer from. yes, it is expensive...but that is the price you pay for good beer. besides, it’s not much more expensive than other places with the same beers in the city. for example, st. ambroise russian imperial stout is only 50 cents more than it is at the fromagerie atwater. cases of dieu du ciel’s line are the same. this guy is very nice, and has all the glassware you’ll need for any beer experience. | | bedainedebiere (34), Terrebonne, Quebec | | November 27, 2009 [ Updated February 18, 2010 ] TOURIST TRAP! And they don’t even speak french. They don’t even speak the "smile" language. About every interesting beer they sell is far too expensive. Still... I admit they have some beers you won’t find anywhere else in the Montréal region BECAUSE NOBODY BOUGHT THEM BECAUSE THEY WERE, AND STILL ARE TOO EXPENSIVE. Don’t encourage this opportunist (located three minutes walking from DDC brewpub...); Get a map, a GPS, a cab or a barely-30-minute-walk and go to Peluso, on Rachel street. | monsieurska (5), Quebec does not count - explanation | | September 25, 2009 Un service en anglais malheureusement et un petit local. Malgré tout, une grande sélection de bière de partout au Québec et quelques bières brassées uniquement pour le dépaneur. | | SFLpunk (11), Burlington, Vermont | | June 13, 2009 Went here after drinking some brews at Dieu du Ciel just a few blocks away. They recommended it as a place to get not only their beers, but a good selection...and they were right.
Lots and lots of Canadian micros, plus the usual Canadian macros (Sleemans, etc) and Imported macros (Guinness, Corona, etc).
They keep a lot of singles cold, three coolers worth, and then have *most* of them on the long warm wall. Didn’t see a lot of classics from Belgium, nor any US beers, but that worked for me because I was searching for Canada’s finest. As I was shopping the shelves, the guy came up to me with an empty six-pack holder: nice touch!
My only real complaint, and this is kind of a big one: NO CREDIT CARDS. Either need Cash or a Canadian debit. No American debits. Would probably have bought more if I didn’t have to use the ATM two blocks up and then come back to pay.
If you’re going to Dieu du Ciel and you’re from the US, definitely stop by. |
