| zizzybalubba (68), Elizabeth City, North Carolina | | May 17, 2012 While Deschutes makes the majority of its beer in Bend, the Public House in downtown Portland makes some tasty beers of their own that are worth trying. Located in the Pearl District, this huge brewpub is located in the heart of many downtown Portland beer destinations. Beyond the front entrance and gift area is a very long bar with familiar Deschutes selections but some brewpub exclusives. The service was attentive and friendly. The selection is what you would expect, the standard lineup with some new beers to try. I did not have the food but it looked very good. The beers and food were reasonably priced. Overall worth checking out if you are interested in Deschutes beers and are in downtown Portland. | | Dixonian (79), Dallas, Texas | | May 2, 2012 Really dug the vibe in this place - nice mix between brewpub and restaurant. I sat at the bar and had a flight of some pub only brews. Nothing spectacular, just a few well made pale ales. The Obsidian Stout on nitro was delicious. I didn’t eat but the food looked pretty good. My only wish is that they had something more rare/special on tap (Abyss, Stoic, Dissidant, etc). | | tkingsbury2 (15), San Diego, California | | April 13, 2012 Big open place with a bar on the back wall. I was surprised that their tap selection mostly consisted of the stuff that are widely available in six-packs...had a special ale on tap but none of the real special stuff. The place was loud and busy and didn’t have that cool ambiance I was hoping for. O well, I was still happy I made it there! | | douglas88 (117), Salt Lake City, Utah | | March 30, 2012 A very cool place, loads of taps and almost all new beers. I guess they brew tons of one-offs. Good food and great service. A laid back atmosphere. Busy and pretty big. I think I hadn’t had 10 beers they had on tap! | | BOLTZ7555 (56), Phoenix, Arizona | | January 1, 2012 Cozy, log cabin feel with big brewing tanks exposed. You can tell this is nestled in the good ole north west. Busy but not over crowded. Room buzzing with lively conversation. Solid unique brews on tap. Got a chance to try Black Butte XXII, which was nice. Menu filled with above average grub that paired well with the beer. Aesthetically pleasing and world-class beer. Definitely would visit again if in the area. | | 1FastSTi (102), Glendale, Wisconsin | | December 30, 2011 This place was absolutely packed and that added to a lively ambiance. Service at the bar and the table was prompt, quick, and well deserving of a nice tip. The Bretterweiss on tap was amazing. Food was excellent. I don’t recall what I ate (unfortunately their website doesn’t have a menu), but it was quite delicious and I’d definitely eat there again. This place is right down the street from Powell’s bookstore. My girlfriend had the Abyss on nitro. | | notalush (256), Denver, Colorado | | December 15, 2011 Enjoyed a sampler tray here after spending several hours in Powell’s books - damn, that place is huge! - anyway, this is a nice spot - homey, log-cabin-esque interior - high ceilings and hardwood everything - a little piece of rustic mountain cabin in the middle of Portland - many of the standard Deschutes brews, plus about 8 taproom exclusives - friendly and attentive staff - food is fairly good (I had some lamb sausage) - prices on the beers are good, but the food is a little steep - a very solid spot. | | maxim2112 (10), Milwaukee, | | December 11, 2011 I was really expecting more from the beers here. Sampled 6 of the more interesting choices. None of them were bad but none were excellent. It’s very nice inside but loud. | | dresden (24), Saskatchewan | | November 20, 2011 Nice location with plenty of pay parking right across the street. Excellent selection of their own beer including a few only available at this brewpub. This is a great place for beer drinkers and non-beer drinkers alike. | | mcberko (59), Vancouver, British Columbia | | November 14, 2011 Very comfy interior, decorated quite extravagantly. Tried the sampler - 6 beers for $6.50 - excellent value. Though Deschutes’ more experimental, bigger beers were mostly not on tap. Still, good opportunity to sample some of their brewpub-only concoctions. Worth the visit if you’re in the area. |
