sinkhole (7), Ottawa, Ontario does not count - explanation | | October 21, 2011 A great BBQ joint, where the ribs are the must have for a first-timer. Good blues atmosphere with a diverse clientele. Some local brews mixed in with the standard macros. Would ranked it higher if it had a better beer selection, but really the beer is secondary to the BBQ at this place. | | RGDave (25), Lebanon, New Jersey | | June 9, 2011 This fantastic honky-tonk rib joint simply provides bar-b-que that is SUPERIOR to any other barbeque I have had, anywhere, and I’ve had my share. The food IS everything it’s cracked up to be, at least the few dozen times I have been here. In fact, nothing comes close to the quality and flavor here - genuine, open-pit, slow-cooked goodness. And, an excellent tap list for a venue that is primarily a bbq joint - about 12 taps, with a good 6 to 8 craft beers, always a few from Ithaca Brewery and a few other locals too. Enjoy! | | GatheringBrews (13), Derby, Vermont | | October 17, 2010 On my annual trip to Syracuse on business every spring, we were recommended this place by a hotel shuttle driver; needless to say, I bought him a rack of ribs as thanks as takeaway. The beer selection is usually pretty good, though a few too many macros. The food is always excellent bbq, and we’ve always had great, roadhouse service. | | MikeF (205), Cleveland, Ohio | | May 29, 2010 Great rustic atmosphere. Friendly servers. Beer selection is average to below average for a "good" beer bar. They have a few region drafts which is nice as well as a few commonplace national drafts. Beer prices are average. The BBQ is very good and worth the stop when in syracuse. Combine this with a stop to the blue tusk and you have a very memorable trip. | | williamherbert (50), Syracuse, New York | | March 13, 2010 A pretty good -- if overrated -- "honkytonk juke joint" where bbq is pretty much on everything on the menu. The food is very good ... although not quite as otherwordly as some might say. The service is usually pretty quick and efficient, although you will often find bikers there who can give the place a sour vibe from time to time.
The beer selection is middling at best, with mostly macros on tap. They do, however, have a few good selections (at least 3-4) at any given time that would be acceptable to any geek. It’s not the kind of place you park at for the whole night, but for dinner, you could do a heckuva lot worse. | | j12601 (214), Poughkeepsie, New York | | November 25, 2009 Probably rating this a bit higher than I would if it was primarily a beer joint. But it’s a bbq place. Stopped in here with my partner for lunch on the way to Canada... service started out well, but after we were done eating we sat waiting for at least 10 minutes before our server came back to ask if we wanted our bill. Wouldn’t have been as bad except it was a bit empty, and from where we were sitting we could see 13 (I counted) other employees. Flight of 4 beers for $4 (or close to it) is a great deal, but I had trouble finding four beers I wanted. Food was mediocre at best. | | swoopjones (190), Buffalo, New York | | November 3, 2009 great biker like atmosphere. Great decor. Big BBQ menu. lots of sides. Food was good BBQ. Very filling. Decent service. ok draft selection Middle ages heavy | | mabel (211), Toronto, Ontario | | August 22, 2009 Visited on a busy Friday night before BCTC in July, we waited about ten minutes for a table for four. There was a dedicated table caller at the entrance who made it very organized, which was necessary for a place that seats about 200 people. Several rooms sprawled across the property, all open and dark and full of paraphernalia on the walls (like dirty street names and old advertisements of buxom blonds), where one wall had a mural of a T-rex. Very tasty pork sandwiches followed along with a couple samples of local brews. We may have been a little boisterous in our excitement for the weekend: our closely packed neighbours were clearly listening into our conversation. Service was initially cold but warmed up by the end of our orders, finishing with a hearty "Have a nice day!" Very interesting bar, would return. | jezmez68 (6), Chesterton, Indiana does not count - explanation | | May 14, 2009 I would probably agree with the three other reviewers here (at the time) that this is strictly a BBQ joint. Great BBQ selection of food. However, I didn’t think that thier selection of beers was TOO shabby. I can’t remember what all they had on tap, but if you’re coming from the midwest, they had at least the Magic Hat #9, and the seasonal, which was the Jinx. I really liked the Jinx. They also had a Lagunitas IPA at the time. Considering that around the country, you have to settle for cold American lager, the choices were decent. However, I am looking forward to trying Blue Tusk, Middle Ages or Clark Street Ale House the next time I roll into Syracuse. | | IPFreely (143), Sanborn, New York | | May 16, 2008 Definitely one of the best BBQ places I’ve ever been to. Killer ribs, brisket, chicken, etc. Beer selection is a bit better than most restaurants. There are a few things worth drinking, but I would not stop here as a beer destination. The food is awesome, and having some decent beer to drink with it is definitely a plus. |
