60 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 3/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 12/20 thomas15 (17) | November 10, 2012 Really cluttered and disorganized. I would have bought more stuff more than likely but is was hard work going through all the aisles over and over. They do have some good beer though | 80 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 bytemesis (214) Sunnyvale, California | October 22, 2012| Updated October 26, 2012 Pretty nice store, not sure it is worth the rating, but nice nonetheless. Great selection of Texas beers, plus a smattering from all over the world. I picked up some nice imp. stouts as well as two new countries. Maybe it is just hard to find a great bottle shop in Houston, but with this rating I expected to find some A-list beers such as Cantillon, 3 Fonteinen, Fantome, De Molen, Struise. None of the above. | 78 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 16/20 deyholla (200) Oklahoma City, Oklahoma | September 16, 2012| Updated October 26, 2012 A nice surprise. Looks to be a typical liquor store, but once in side you see an amazing bottle selection as well as even some taps for growlers. Seem to get a few things that are not available around town. Prices are great and service is solid. | 88 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 dfinney23 (22) Houston, Texas | August 17, 2012| Updated October 26, 2012 Just an update to say the growler fills are on hold -- hopefully a temporary situation. Thank Texas’ wacky liquor laws.
How is D&Q not already in the database here? From the outside it looks like any other independent convenience store but inside is an awesome beer mecca.
On price and overall selection they can’t compete with the much better known Spec’s Warehouse but unlike Spec’s they sell just about everything they carry as singles and rare items tend to stay on the shelves a bit longer. Also a huge selection of pint and other branded beer glasses.
It’s also only a couple miles from Spec’s so after browsing and bulk-buying there, swing by D&Q for a few oddities and a couple BYO 6-packs. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 djd07 (24) Houston, Texas | August 8, 2012| Updated October 26, 2012 Best bottle selection in town. Lots of singles and harder to get bombers. Good selection of glassware as well. Friendly staff. | 88 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 Steve_0 (71) Denver, Colorado | June 5, 2012| Updated July 16, 2012 Went here on the recommendation from some friends and the great people here at RB. When you read the reviews they are spot on. This is by far the best store to go for craft beer in Houston. May not be as large as Spec’s but definitely some unique offerings. A ton of glassware and even some spaghetti-o’s for sale, haha. Four or Five growler to-go stations, as well.
Don’t expect any organizaton because bottles are literally scattered all over the place. This isn’t really a problem though because the service is top-notch. The owner is a great guy and even grabbed some stuff for me from his personal cellar, including the original Black Metal. Great store with a wonderful owner. When I come back to Houston I will definitely be back. | 86 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 FlacoAlto (17) Tucson, Arizona | April 11, 2012 A convenience store (it really is a mini-mart) looking place that is full of singles perfect for the traveling beer geek. A little bit of talking with what seemed to be the beer guy and he made sure I was walking out of there with a nice sample of Texas’ finest, including a batch one (non-farmhouse) of Black metal he pulled out of the back for me.
If I end up back in the Houston area, I know I will be stopping back here. Value wasn’t even a consideration, as I really didn’t pay too much attention to the prices, and it even seemed like I got a price break and he even offered up some free schwag. | 82 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 17/20 SudsMcDuff (174) .....Manchester United.........., Texas | January 16, 2012 a great place... run by an awesome dude .. . great selection of singles.. . prices are only a buck or two more than specs, but this place is legit.. great GREAT glass selection .. . and growlers, 4 taps of cool items... a must stop!! | 82 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 rougeau13 (65) Texas | January 6, 2012 Wow, I was shocked upon entering this place. It looks like a little old mini mart, but it’s full of beer inside! And good beer! It’s a bit more expensive than Spec’s, but there are some gems in there that Spec’s doesn’t carry, and they all come in singles. Really glad I found it, and the owners were really cool to boot. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 beerandbeyond (1) , Israel | November 29, 2011 On the outside you would never even give this place a look, but it’s the best hidden beer jem and definitely the most friendly beer store in Houston, but it doesnt end there. Awesome selection of bottles from all around with the option of buying singles on pretty much all of them! Huge selection of branded beer glasses priced very reasonably, four beers on tap to take home in growlers and a lovely owner who can appreciate good beer and good customers, and is glad to give out recommenations.
Prices are slightly higher than the mega shops, but thats totally understandable and anyway it’s much more satisfying to leave your money at the small businesses. |
