| fiver29 (48), Cleveland, Ohio | | February 4, 2012 I have visited East End Brewing twice in the past 3 years. The most recent visit was about 2-3 weeks ago. You walk into the tasting area from the street. Its a small space with no place to sit. So its mainly set up just for growler fills and thats it. PA crazy liquor laws abound. You can’t buy a pint, but they will give you as many free samples as you want. And you have to buy one of their growlers. Another law. The bartender was very knowledgeable helpful in selecting beer to sample and fill. I also bought a couple bottles. But those prices are way too high for the quality of the beer inside. No way I’m going back to buy bottles.
Overall its just a growler stop with nothing more to add. No real ambiance other than to stop in and get a growler fill. | | Maduro54 (11), , | | December 26, 2011 they are trying real hard so I cut them some slack though offended they made me buy their growler container when i had 2 with me. | | MrChopin (89), Baltimore, Maryland | | November 23, 2011 Dingy warehouse in semi-rough part of town. This is a warehouse, not a restaurant or bar. Chris put it perfectly: "You come to have your growlers filled." Probably water or booze on the floor when you get here. Probably 1-2 volunteers filling them while chatting up locals. Probably every local has a free sample in hands... you can try everything for free. Typically 8-10 taps, root beer, and swag and a few bottles for purchase as well. Not much to do but chat, sample, and take to-go, so plan 30 minutes and stop by. If their beers weren’t available on tap elsewhere, this would be a must. | | JoePeesie (63), Long Lake, Illinois | | August 29, 2011 Visited from out of state. A 5 for Ambiance is totally subjective. We were there in December, and the tasting room is a barely insulated room at the front of the brewery with a number of tap heads coming out of the side of a massive refrigerator (although that day it was about 40 in there so the fridge wasn’t really needed) I dug it, it was raw an rustic and said "stop in with your growler get your goods and then get back to your day. I thought it was cool.
Selection is also top shelf in my book as I was able to grab a vintage bottle of Gratitude. Its a must swing thru anytime I’m in the Burgh. | | Zax (10), | | April 8, 2011 Free beer tastings during open hours! What’s not to like. The staff is knowledgable, friendly, and eager to share their lovingly brewed product. Stop by for a pour and take a growler or bomber bottle home with you. | | crizay (128), Brook Park , Ohio | | November 5, 2010 Not much to be said here. It’s a warehouse, they make beer and happen to sell growler fills for a few hours. But I did stay for about an hour and a half, had a great time sampling all there beers and left with 2 growlers of beer and 1 with root beer. Good place to swing by and get a quick growler if your in Pittsburgh. | | cpetrone84 (34), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | October 22, 2010 Great little brewery. They are located in a warehouse and sell beer from a small room right off the street within the warehouse. I drove right by it the first time I went as its just a door and no sign or markings anywhere. Great sessionable beers and always something new going on tap. No food and limited growler hours. It isn’t a bar, it is a growler fill station. The guys that work there are insanely friendly! | | alobar (43), Lansdale, Pennsylvania | | July 4, 2010 Visited from out of town. Two guys working and a line formed as soon as the place opened. Needed the GPS. No signs. But, service was excellent-sampled all 7 on tap before purchasing a growler. These guys work HARD! | | JohnnyJ (94), San Diego, California | | June 25, 2010 Very hard to find place, just an open door in a brick building, no signage. Nice people, that enjoy talking about beer. Tasters of the current beers, growler fills, and a few bottles. Nice place, glad I could visit. | | Beerman6686 (24), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | May 18, 2010 Ambiance is interesting, depends on what your looking for, but the taps are right in the front when you walk in, apart from all the brewing equipment, in an old run down warehouse. Service is pretty good, the pourers are always asking who needs another sample and are happy to talk beer. Selection is about 8 beers on tap at all times, with 3-4 changing about monthly. Bottled beers are good but a bit pricey, growler beers are decent to good being between 10-12 a fill which isn;t bad at all. Overall, a nice unique place to go to for quality growler fills at a decent price, and the only brewery worth visiting for the beer in Pittsburgh. |
