| arkurzynski (58), West Bend, Wisconsin | | November 1, 2011 Authentic German food - quite good. Mostly German imports, but an okay selection in general. Have had numerous boots here back in the day. | | theisti (273), Leawood, Kansas | | October 4, 2011 Had dinner hear with a large group of friends on a busy Friday night. This is a German restaurant in the Wisconsin tradition - lots of seating, great polka band going, and the whole crowd drinking and having a good time. I had the Kase Spaetzle (sp?) which was really good - only better I have had was in Vienna. Beer wise - pretty standard German offerings - mostly focused on the boot. Service was great - I honestly have no idea how she handled our group. Overall, fun festive atmosphere and solid German food. | | tjern16 (11), Alabama | | July 8, 2011 Really neat place to go. If you are in madison this should be a place you stop. The beer selection is good but the restaurant feels and looks like an old german pub. It is fun and has good selections. | | sunnyridge (28), | | April 4, 2010 Great German beer hall. If you love German beer and food, look no further. Bring on the boot!!!! | | nuplastikk (32), Madison, Wisconsin | | March 1, 2010 This place seems OK from the website, but Id avoid it. The tap beers were all old and embarrassingly bad. The Hacker Edelhell was horribly off. The prices are outrageously high for Madison, about 5.50 a pint. The service was crappy, they couldn’t seem to be able to grasp the whole tab thing, constantly bringing us receipts and bills, even though we only had 3 beers that were all supposed to be on one tab. Maximum disappointment, avoid!!!! Bad reputation around town, deservedly so. | | troyc (147), Oklahoma | | January 3, 2010 Visited on a crowded weekend night. The place had plenty of good German beer on tap, including some relatively hard to find stuff. It definitely didn’t look like there were 200 bottles available. The food was decent, but not exactly true to German standards. The polka music and drunk people on the dance floor added to the ambiance. I’d visit again. | | bonk0076 (17), Milwaukee, Wisconsin | | December 14, 2009 Stopped in here with the girlfriend to get a couple liters of Dinkelacker Dark on tap, as I was told a few years ago that it was one of the few places in the state that has it. Unfortunately they didn’t at this time. Atmosphere was great, staff dressed in lederhosen and what not. Didn’t try too hard to be a German Beer Hall like some places, was just rough enough to be realistic. Beer menu was solid, but had hoped they had more Schneider or Ayinger varieties there then what they did. | | drowland (116), Tallahassee, Florida | | August 22, 2009 A great place to visit, even though it’s sort of a chain. The ambiance is great - live polka music, German decorations and stuff all over the wall, and an overall great time to be had with the boots and everything else. The service was quick and friendly and our waiter knew enough about the beers. The selection is pretty good for a restaurant - but hey, it’s German! The food was good, not the best German fare I’ve had, but still good. The value was about average, and overall, I’ll definitely be hitting this place again when I visit my friends and family in Madison! | | CMUBEERMAN (49), Madison, Wisconsin | | May 13, 2008 Hmmm....fun place with some good german beers...good german food. Fun...lots of attractive girls on the right night. Hmmm...still not my favorite. | | OldChuffy (18), | | March 17, 2008 [ Updated March 15, 2009 ] The beer is merely OK by Madison standards, and I thought the food was pretty bad. Crowded and noisy and the washrooms are kind of filthy. Anti Jane Fonda propaganda is a turn off, too. There’s too many other places in Madison that are far better. |
