barak316 (4), does not count - explanation | | October 23, 2009 I love this place. I just wish they had a bottle selection. The draft selection is fantastic. They have wonderful house brews and the guest taps are amazing. The food is absolutely the best around. It does get quite noisy in this place at times and the parkiing can get very irritating. Otherwise this place is nice up and coming bar/brewery!!! I hope they start bottling there beers soon! | | Packard (23), Kirkland, Washington | | September 9, 2009 Just want to echo what arpagamos wrote - the Headhunter IPA on cask is as good as I’ve tasted; great on tap and perfect on cask. The two cask beers were the IPA and a smoked porter that was outstanding. Total of 13 locally brewed beers on tap and another 20 best of class from other brewers (think Avery Maharajah, Southern Tier Unearthly, and Reisdorff Kolsch). Their Gudenhoppy Pils is unfiltered and the first pilner I’ve had that I actually ordered twice. It’s bar food, but real good with huge portions. Try the Bob and Martha’s pastrami sandwich. The Battleaxe Baltic Porter was just right with their chocolate cake for dessert. Service was friendly and the staff well educated. | arpagamos (3), Canton, Ohio does not count - explanation | | August 30, 2009 The head hunter IPA was the best California style single IPA I have ever had and I used to live in Santa Rosa CA. I loved this brewery. The bartender was great and took the time to explain the beers to me. The Pack a Wallop made with heavy doses of Columbus hops was fantastic. I also thought their Belgian strong ale Collaborative Evil was easily as good as Damnation or other top Belgians made in America. Excellent selection of guest brews that I wasn’t even tempted to go to even though some of them were among my favorites. There is something here for all beer lovers. | budbeer (1), Alabama does not count - explanation | | July 20, 2009 Beer was really good. I tried 6 of the house beers and they where really great.
But the overall experience was really bad. I’ve never run into this before, never. I frequent the Winking Lizards, Rock Bottom, Beer Engine, Brew Kettle, Willoughby Brewing etc.. I walked in with five friends on a Sunday night, the restaurant was about half full. All of the tables in the bar area where empty and 2 of 8 booths where occupied. I talked to the hostess and said we were expecting 6, could we grab a table. She asked if we’d be eating dinner and I said we’d probably just be drinking beer, we would probably order appetizers after a few. She said tables are for people eating food only. I said can I just order an appetizer now and have table. She said the tables are ’REALLY’ for people ordering dinner.
What a crappy way to start an evening. So we had to sit a group of 6 at the bar couldn’t talk very well to anyone but the person right next to you. We manged but it was not ideal, and totally unnecessary.
2 of the 3 tables remained empty all night, 1 table was occupied for half the time we were there. The booths were eventually all empty. I looked over at people sitting comfortably in a booth. They were eating a $15 dollar pizza and ice water. My beer bill was $20 with tip.
What is baffling is that you would think a table of 6 ordering beer and appetizers for 2-3 hours would easily outspend a group of 6 eating pizza and sandwiches for dinner. Wouldn’t the alcohol sales be more profitable? We would have ordered food if we where at a table.
Maybe I should have asked to talk to the manager, but I just had a general feeling of disgust with the place. I probably will not go back. | | ZiggyDaMoe (12), , Ohio | | July 8, 2009 Started in Pittsburgh and they brew here and ship it there now. House beer is good. Very big inside with good ambiance. The menu is pretty good but too standard. | pivolee (1), , does not count - explanation | | June 16, 2009 I visited this brewpub 5 times so far with my family. Place was extremely busy two times, very busy other three. Service was excellent every time! Very friendly but fast and efficient once you get a table- typical wait on busy day was 10-25min. Very nice, tasteful decor, plenty of space between tables or booths. We tried different menu items each time - food was great - portions are huge!! I tasted so far 7 of their beers, all of them were excellent, Starlight Lager and Goggle Fogger are my personal favorites.
This brewpub is a great addition to Cleveland’s area restaurant scene.
(Only problem - my family keeps asking me to go back too often!!) | livelaughlovep (5), Lakewood, Ohio does not count - explanation | | June 13, 2009 Its a little out of the way, sure, but this place is pretty awesome. Its huge. Absolutely huge. Glass windows allow you to see the brewing equipment on both sides of the entrance, the rest of the establishment is half sports bar, half family restaurant with light woods and visible rafters. Attractive.
Their guest taps are pretty diverse, and their own offerings plentiful. Service was good, attentive and friendly - as good as you would hope or expect in a place that can seat four hundred! Food is amazing - I had the pulled pork sandwich and it was served on a six inch across bun and had to be at least five inches thick with a knife stabbed into it. I presume to prevent it escaping. My boyfriends’ burger was equally as large and was cooked to perfection. They also offer a brewed on premises root beer that is just wonderful. I’d recommend this to any in the area, certainly. We’ll be back. | | DrBayern (39), Morehead City, North Carolina | | June 10, 2009 Had the occasion to visit here with my brother during a recent trip to Cleveland. We went after having lunch elswhere, so I can’t comment on the food. We had about three of the beers brewed on the premises, and they were all good. There were 7 Fatheads taps, and about 20 guest taps which were impressive. Among others, they had Ruination, Aventinus, Boris the Crusher, GL Edmund Fitzgerald, Bigfoot, Gouden Carois Grand Cru, Racer 5, Founders Dirty Bastard, and Brother Thelonius. They also have two casks that come on Friday evenings at about 5:30. From what the bartender told us, the cask beers are often gone before the evening is over. Hopefully, they’ll extend the cask offerings to other nights of the week. Bartenders were very frindly and knowledgeable. It’s a big place, and has been extensively remodeled. It is a very attractive space with a large bar area. It’s not too far from Brew Kettle, close to the airport. Definitely worth a trip if you’re in town. | | MikeF (95), Cleveland, Ohio | | June 2, 2009 A great addition to the local beer scene. Great food with huge sandwiches. Great service with enought space to accomidate many customers and keep waits short. They offer great barbeque and smoke their own meats - excellent. The beer, also, is great. High quality house brews of many styles with a nice assortment of guest taps. | | Pipper (27), Ohio | | May 20, 2009 Went to lunch here on a Wednesday. Weird location situated amongst Great Clips and Deluxe Nails. A very large building with lots of bar room and sitting options. Hilarious staff hanging outside with such great updates as "my ex-girlfriend left me for her crack dealer". Service was excellent, helpful and very friendly. Food was huge, delicious and varied so come hungry and thirsty. About 8-10 of their own brews on the list as well as about 22 guest taps. Great place, happy to find it in Ohio. |
