| phaleslu (88), Cincinnati, Ohio | | November 29, 2009 Stopped in for lunch on the way up to a basketball tournament at UIC Pavilion. The food was all right- I had a bratwurst with fries, and it came loaded with carmelized onions that overwhelmed it. The real value here is the sampler, a tray with 12 different beers for $10.95. They gave me everything on tap, which included about 7 regulars and 5 seasonals. I was especially impressed with the darker styles here, and the lighter styles weren’t bad. The atmosphere is great, as the brewpub is in an old train station in the downtown area of Flossmoor. The building is old, with a nice renovation, consistent train station theme throughout and careful attention to detail. Good conversation to be had at the bar, too, as I wasn’t the only one making a special visit here. | | Packard (23), Kirkland, Washington | | November 11, 2009 [ Updated November 14, 2009 ] During my pilgrimage to Three Floyds, thought I’d try the next best beer place in the area. It’s not bad. Nothing actually jumped out, but that could be due to where I’d been hanging out for the previous three days. Had the Panama Red, the Pullman Brown and a limited release IPA. Food was baby back ribs, which were quite good. Nice venue with inside and outside seating. Overall, it’s more family- and date-friendly than 3F and in a better locale. Good choice for beer on the south side if you need a break from Munster, IN. | | shawnm213 (42), South Bend, Indiana | | November 10, 2009 Stopped here for lunch on Sunday afternoon on the way home from fobab. managed to trick the girlfriend into going here and was happy to see they had outdoor seating so she wasn’t completely miserable while i sat there and rated 12 flossmoor beers. The service was good. The food was better than average, but not great, bar food. Worth a stop if you’re in chicago! | | WITTBEER (21), Illinois | | October 6, 2009 My home away from home! | | kitschy (46), Nebraska | | September 5, 2009 Perhaps it’s because we were there in the daytime, but the Flossmoor seemed pretty focused on being the town’s best brass and glass lunch stop. A number of beers were available, served in shotglass-size samples.
I strongly suggest that you map your way there ahead of time, as the people answering the phone don’t know where they are located. | | hogan873 (11), Joliet, Illinois | | July 11, 2009 Stopped here with my family. I had been wanting to try this place for a long time and finally got the chance today. Very cool setting, being in an old train station. Nice memorabilia spread about the place. Service was very good. Our waitress was very efficient, friendly, and knowledgable. The food was excellent. There is a very ample kids menu, and I can say that the kids ribs meal was delicious! I had one of the best lake perch sandwiches I’ve ever had. As far as the beer, I partook in the 10-beer sampler since I had never been there before. All were very good, with the Milky Way Stout and Apricot Ale being standouts. Overall, a great brewery and an even better restaurant...especially for families. | | topherh (14), Kearney, Missouri | | July 2, 2009 Very interesting setting in the old station. Food was very good as was the beer. My daughter absolutely loved when the train went by. Hope to make it back here one day. | | ilovedarkbeer (38), Dallas, Texas | | May 25, 2009 Located right off the train tracks in a area that is sort of old school. Interior is well lit with lots of wood and a view of the stainless steel tanks. Waitstaff is mostly dopey girls who are nice and funny. Food was pretty damn good. Had some amaretto soaked apples with brie, and a three berry pie. Beers were all solid, nothing that blew me away, but the food was tasty. | | miketd (36), Cleveland, Ohio | | May 4, 2009 Nice, fairly large inside with two big patio seating areas. Very cool feel with it being right next to the train station. Friendly waitstaff. Actually they had the patience of saints as we were there Friday before Dark Lord Day and let us do pretty much our own thing. Beer list was pretty good and they had a couple guest taps including cask. Food was decent but we stuck mostly to the free buffet. Nice place overall. | | MikeF (95), Cleveland, Ohio | | May 3, 2009 Unique setting in an old train station. Large bar area as you enter with a good amount of seating in what appears to be the main part of the station. All of the Flossmoor brews I tried on draft were very good. They also have a guest tap - blackout stout at the time. Overall, the food is very average. No major complaints, just average. Service was good. They offer a number of pies for dessert - the french silk chocolate pie was very good. summary -- good beer and pie, average food. To me - prices for the food served seemed high. |
