Café Gollem

2020 Visit. Visited early evening on a Wednesday. Quite central Amsterdam, recognizable Gollem interior design. Lots of people inside, seemingly all tourists. With second story slightly elevated about the first room. Lived in old wood, cozy, bar looks like it dates back a few decades even the door handle to get in is an old time system, took me a bit to figure out. Looks like a place where people used to smoke like hell once upon a time. Good service, bottle list written on walls comparable to other Gollem bars. 14 taps with the selection being almost painfully pedestrian, several Brand offerings, standard Gollem beers, Maes Pils oddly? They do large pours of Maes Pils, yeah... Only two seemingly worthwhile beers one Jopen and one Lervig on tap. Bottle selection is barely more exciting lots of dull BE & NL offerings with almost nothing exciting and comparable to what you would expect from Gollem. I enjoyed the setting, service was good, prices were fair but the beer selection was almost catatonically bland sadly which makes it totally ignorable for me.

I don't understand the high ratings for this place. Fairly uninteresting taplist, so you come here for the bottle selection, which is decent -- some standard lambics, nice stouts, and many more. It's a cozy, intimate place, so it gets high marks for that. Better go to the Amstelstraat location for a much better draught and bottle list.

We loved this place so much we went three times in a four night stay!!! Busy, friendly - the only place we went to where people talked with strangers, and where it was not too loud as to make conversation difficult! Beers - we tried loads and loved everything, but particularly the Gollem house beers and Belgian ones! Bar staff great. When I checked in on facebook, so many of my CAMRA friends commented, all praising the place very highly!

In city centre Amsterdam. Busy on a Friday night. 15 beers on tap. More in bottles. Friendly and English speaking service. Probably a nice bar during daytime.

Crowded, chaotic, charming beer café/bar. Good selection. Good service, with some attitude.
