| Johnsense (33), , | | April 7, 2012 Busy when I visited, but i was looked after promptly. Menu was fairly eclectic for a small palce, and included several vegan dishes. All the current Granite brews were on tap including Hopping Mad and Gin Lane. Beer was a bit pricey but the stout, Hopping Mad and gin Lane were worth it. Glad to go back again. Note - growlers of most of their beers are off to the side. | | Radek Kliber (72), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Poland | | December 23, 2011 Location is not best but interior is decent. Very nice service provided with decent beer selelction. Good value. | | PatIrish (12), Toronto, Ontario | | December 21, 2011 The beer selection is outstanding. Too bad the same can’t be said about the space itself. I found the service to be a bit rough around the edges. | | kevinsenn (31), Waterloo, Ontario | | October 11, 2011 A good selection of their own brews. Had samples of most; the Best Bitter Special being my favourite. Growlers to go of this beer were a staple at my parents’ parties. Definitely worth a visit. | | solidfunk (39), Ontario | | October 3, 2011 The brewer really seems to know his stuff. They’ve been here for twenty years doing this now, so they have the experience to turn out some great brews. | | JoeMcPhee (398), Toronto, ON, Ontario | | January 11, 2011 Intimate English pub feel when you walk in. Lots of small rooms dividing up the area and there that typical Victorian-style swag all over the walls. As always, the emphasis is on English-style ales and they really do do them well. Typical sort of pub grub, but if you’re looking for a hand-pulled pint of cask bitter, this is the place to go in Toronto. Friendly barman. It’s a completely different scene than many of the other Toronto watering holes, but they excel at what they do. Count me a fan. | | cratez (100), London, Ontario | | July 12, 2010 [ Updated February 25, 2012 ] EDIT - Feb. 2012: on my latest visit the food was underwhelming (lukewarm crab cakes), the service was a little bristly, and my growler of Hopping Mad tasted like a mild English pale ale (not the US IPA that it claims to be). I’ve lowered my score as a result.
2009 Review - My girl and I had a lovely time here while visiting Toronto. The free underground parking is a nice bonus, particularly in a city where you can’t park anywhere without paying $35. Old fashioned, rustic decor with a Cheers-style bar and quiet, relaxing ambiance. Admittedly a bit drab, but I like it. Our server, Kevin, was quiet but competent. He explained that Granite’s been operating in T.O. for 18 years and told us about the recent relocation of the Halifax brewery. Beer selection is all of Granite’s offerings, about 12 brands in total, with the Best Bitter Special on cask. I grabbed one growler each of the Keefe’s Irish Stout, Gin Lane Ale, and Hopping Mad, as the beer store fridge is located right beside the bar. The food is a real treat. I had the Stout Drunken Burger and veggie soup; my girlfriend enjoyed her chicken souvlaki and Lemon Lust cake. Everything is well presented and affordable. If you can make the trip just north of downtown Toronto, Granite is worth a visit. High quality food and beer, great service, inviting atmosphere. I would love to come here for an event, or in the evening, when there’s more patrons. Cool spot. | | hopwartz (32), Toronto, Ontario | | June 5, 2010 If you love your English Ales - this spot is for you! The Granite brewery is a family run brewpub that specialize in English ales. Ron Keefe, the owner and brew master, is a dedicated brewer who is very passionate with what they put out. What I love about this place is that you can get a really large lateral tasting of all their offerings. Also, if you really enjoy their beer, you can walk away with a growler (cask-conditioned)! Its defiantly worth checking out, especially the Hopping Mad, which is his american I.P.A. The only problem i have with the place is the decor, it seems so ancient! But it also attracts a much older crowd so I do not blame them. I would love to bring my friends here more often, but they resist because of the ambiance. Nevertheless, this place is great and make really good beer. | ddenomme (4), Mississauga, Ontario does not count - explanation | | December 19, 2009 Enjoyable place to visit and the Granite beers are excellent. Service can be a bit, well, diffident. Nice central location. Food nothing special but fine. Worth the trip and OK value. | strowlands8 (3), Ontario does not count - explanation | | August 16, 2009 Service is great, food is better and the beer is not bad. For a place like this that brews all there own beer there really isn’t anywhere better in Toronto except for maybe Mill St. |
