| RHeastings (20), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | November 11, 2009 Visited on several occasions when in the Cleveland area, and have yet to be disappointed. The beers on tap are fresh from the brewery itself. Tours of the production facility are free and informative, the food is nicely prepared, and the staff is kind and eager to assist patrons. In addition to the usual favorites from the Great Lakes portfolio, there are some styles that the company only sells at the pub itself. Overall, one of the best places to eat and drink I’ve been to. | | Icommonsewer (10), TUCSON, Arizona | | September 4, 2009 The service was a bit slow as the place was packed, but that was about my only complaint. The atmosphere is cool, with 3 areas to eat. I wish the cellar had been open for us instead of having to be in the greenhouse. Love their beer! | | Pipper (27), Ohio | | August 16, 2009 Still haven’t eaten here yet but I like that they do a lot of sustainability stuff so that they use the left overs from brewing to make pretzels and bread and fuel their company trucks. The brewery tour is useless and maybe 15 mins top. They show you the bags of barley, the empty mash-tuns and then take you to a bar where you have to pay a quarter for a sample of their run-of-the-mill beer, no special offerings, and they’re from bottles not tap into plastic cups. I feel my time would have been better served at the bar. Their downstairs cellar pub is really really great though - dark, cool, dark bar, small booths and dirt floor, feels like a speakeasy. | ohiobrewman (4), Hubbard, Ohio does not count - explanation | | August 13, 2009 The food was very good. Wish they had more seasonals on tap. The brewery tour was fun. I wish I lived closer as I would visit quite often! I love GLBC beer! Keep up the good work guys! | | jeffmw (14), | | July 29, 2009 Whether you love the beer or not, this place is a must-stop. They have the regular stuff on tap at all times, along with usually a seasonal and 1-3 pub exclusives. I strongly recommend an Edmund Fitz or Eliot Ness on tap. They’re wonderful beers that need to be experienced fresh and on tap.
Oddly, the best thing about this place is the food. Just about everything I’ve ever had there was exceptional. The perogies and sausage and pretzel chicken are probably the house specialties The pasta from nearby Ohio City Pasta is always good. They’re also an environmentally friendly company that incorporates a lot of green initiatives into both how they run the facility and their food production.
They also have a bus that goes to Indians and Cavs games. The only drawback is that they don’t take reservations and the place doesn’t have a ton of tables. There’s almost always a long wait.
| | opkutech (13), Wisconsin | | July 28, 2009 This is where I was introduced to the "Blackout Stout" The single best beer I have ever had. The place was incredibly busy and hard to get to the bar but people made room when they could. over all an ok place with GREAT beer. | | padgemw (11), , | | July 24, 2009 A very nice brewpub. Nice location and good atmosphere in the pub itself. Both the food and the service were right on target and of course the beers...well integral to a brewpub after all and they delivered. I’ve drunk most of the Great Lakes portfolio and while all good, their standouts for me are the Blackout Stout and the Conway’s Irish. | | ZiggyDaMoe (12), , Ohio | | July 8, 2009 Beer is certainly the greatest strength of GLBC. Their come a little short on the average food. | | Cliff (10), Avon Lake, Ohio | | July 6, 2009 [ Updated September 21, 2009 ] Great Lakes has an awesome vibe, the Cellar Bar is one of the coolest places to have a beer. Selection is pretty good, I wish they would have more pub exclusives, usually only 2 or 3 plus their regualr lineup. Food is tasty, but the menu is limited and the prices are high. Service has always been good. A great place to experience, but being local I don’t go all that often unless something special is on tap. | | phaleslu (88), Cincinnati, Ohio | | July 3, 2009 Came to Great Lakes after an Indians game, and I loved the place. I appreciate eating and drinking in a brewpub in an old building like this, especially given the dearth of places like this in Cincinnati. Great Lakes has a solid line of beers that are easy to find all over Ohio and the northern Midwest, and I was happy to get a chance to try some in their home. |
