This is Bamberg’s brewery with the smallest capacity. They have only one beer but this is very tasteful. I like the beer garden in the summer and food is great too. As the other 8 traditional breweries a must place to visit.

After walking up the hill in a sunny weather we went backside to the beer garden. I had the lager and found it nice. the food was also good. The service was friendly and quick. Great view to Altenburg castle. Will gladly return.

Visited twice in March 2012. Really nice traditional place inside with wood paneling and a stove. The back garden was locked so I couldn’t observe the famous view of the castle. They seemed to be trying out a new smoke beer which had only a touch of smokiness about it and was a bit metallic. Had different experiences with Lager: first time it seemed a bit astringent while it was much better on the second visit. I ate the leberkose which is served with an egg and potato salad. It was good although the potato salad was a bit lame. The 912, 918, and 937 buses all stop at the Laurenziplatz if you don’t fancy the walk up the hill.

Greifenklau is a bit outside the centre, but easily reached by bus. If you walked up there you have earned yourselve a beer or two. In summer the back garden is open, huge and shaded with a great view towards the Altenburg. The Lager (Kellerbier) is very good when on form. Laurenzibier is a darker Kellerbier for the Laurenzi-Kirchweih, so a seasonal. Food is traditional and of a decent quality. They only brew the Lager, Keller and Bockbier here, Pils and Weizen are brewed for them.

I didn’t plan to go here, but since it was some 30 seconds from hotel where we stayed, we couldn’t miss it. Typical German brauhaus with moderate big biergarten behind. Tried only beers, but food on the next table looked tasty.

Small brewery with large biergarten outside of center. They had 3 beers on tap, food I don’t know, because I was there quite early and was more thirsty, than hungry. service is quick and friendly.

A small Bamberg Brewery with a big beer garden from where you get an excellent view to old Altenburg Castle. It is a rather long walk uphill from the Altstadt to the Kaulberg. But, a good Lagerbier is waiting! (Visited July 1st 2011)
