Wood-floored pub with a handful of house brews and Maine locals. The house brews, being Ringwood jobs, have too much diacetyl, but are otherwise competent (as long as you don’t get a fruit beer, which you have to expect will suck and does). Didn’t eat - went to the Naked BBQ place down the street (which also has some decent brews on tap).

Old, run-down tavern on the side of the road that is potentially depressing but still has some character. Cool mural on the wall blessing the mothers of all brewers. Looks like they have some nice outdoor seating by a little creek if you go during the day. If you’re staying in the area it’s worth a go, of course. Our hotel was right down the road, and Freeport is pretty close to Portland and has decent outlet shopping especially if you need outdoorsy stuff.

What a dump! We went to Gritty’s in Auburn the day before and it was awesome so we figured this place would be too, WRONG. Don’t bother stopping here because it ain’t Gritty’s.

Bland atmosphere...terrible bartenders...bad parking lot and difficult to turn out of on a busy day. A sad compliment to Gritty’s outstanding location in Old Port. Do not waste your time.

This place blows - cheesy family restaurant atmosphere - on the fringes of the giant outlet mall that is Freeport - about six beers on tap, all of which are the standard Gritty’s brews (all of which pretty much taste the same) that you can buy for 2.99 in bombers pretty much everywhere around here - you’ll pay about 4 bucks for a pint of one of them here, so whats the draw? - beats me.

A great brew pub. Food is excellent I stop here a number of times my family has sampled a lot of the menu you cant go wrong (except maybe the pizza ) Great sampler along with the have daily brew specials. Face it you’re going to spend the money at the outlet stores so you might a well have a full tummy and a few great brews.

Great Food. You can only get Gritty beer so you have to be in the mood for that. The chili is amazing, the location is great, the beer is great, and the brew shop nextdoor lets you pick up your beer to go after you eat.

Good old Gritty’s...This location came several years after the original Portland location and still seems to be going strong. Beers don’t seem quite as memorable now that I’ve sampled alot more from elsewhere but I’ve got to give it nostalgia points. Nice little selection of beers that includes one or two on cask and maybe another couple not bottled. Their beers are actually quite good fresh I think. Decent atmosphere - a stand alone building several blocks away from LL Bean etc with plenty of parking. Haven’t eaten here in quite awhile but as I remember the food’s pretty good. Informal atmosphere and OK to bring the kids.
