| Jow (59), New York | | April 3, 2012 Stopped by to pick up some brew for Game of Thrones premier party. They were closing but stayed open for 5 minutes so I could grab some bottles the draft lines were turned off. Selection was ok but prices were quite high. They had some programs on schedule though that seem fun | | Leighton (227), London, England | | January 27, 2012 A very clean, nicely laid out shop with a great range of tap beers (24) and many bottles (c. 150). They’ve got a big plasma TV that lists all the available draft options. The variety is great and the staff are friendly. Prices are a little higher than some of the other bottle shops around, though certainly not the highest. This would never be my go-to beer store, though I would visit here occasionally. | | MaxxDaddy (20), Hoboken, New Jersey | | January 25, 2012 Went here after hearing about their opening. Real snazzy place, full of singles and have 24 growler taps available for 32 or 64 oz fills. Plus "the Beast," which looked like a 2L plastic bottle. Don’t fret, they counter-pressure fill everything, which I have to say is this place’s best feature. They’re certainly trying very hard; they even have a station where you can search for beer styles you’re interested in and it shows you what’s available in the store. You can even tweak settings like IBUs and alcohol content if you have preferences for those sorts of things. However (you knew this was coming if you’ve been reading), the value just isn’t there. Bottles are relatively expensive, likely due to the location of this place. Additionally, growler fills are similarly expensive. 32 oz fills range from $5.99 to $23.99 (Evil Twin Christmas Eve...). Glass costs $3.99 for either growler type. Owner (I think his name was Bill) is an incredibly nice guy, willing to show me around and show me all of this stuff. Unfortunately, I’m not sure the convenience of this place and counter-pressure fills are enough to get me to come back very regularly, at least for special stuff, like some of the 12% line. For local stuff, maybe depending on price and desire to have growlers. |
