Shocked to see such low reviews. This place is right in "downtown" Gaithersburg, which has 2 stop lights. Driving in here beware there are a butt ton of traffic cameras and speed cameras. Parking is decently ample at the free public lot behind the building. No meters. Inside is a very beautiful New Orleans style high wooden beams, mirrors, chandeliers. There is a downstairs bar and seating area, middle floor loft, and a roof deck. Roof deck was packed when I was there on a Tuesday early evening. Beers on tap were of decent quality. I didn’t get any major off flavors or brewing flaws mentioned in previous ratings. More than 8 taps- at least 6 static house beers on tap and then another 6 specialty seasonal taps. I ordered a flight, which gets you 6 house beers and you don’t have to do their 6 static taps- you can sub in some of the specialty stuff for an extra $1 or something. Bartender was quick, pleasant, but probably not a beer expert. Was slightly unclear about their Pale Ale versus their IPA after pouring, but these are the same color so is understandable but very annoying to me a beer rater. Didn’t try the food, but it was clear this place has a full sit down lunch and dinner menu with servers and hostess. So a big more formal than you might think. They do have growler fills, surprise, of their house beers. Don’t think they have any guest taps here. Would come back and would urge you to give this place a shot. Doesn’t deserve a 2-star rating. Maybe they finally hired a competent brewer.

We went on a Friday night and they had a band that was playing that was doing well until they had one of their girlfriends come up and scream into the microphone. Young crowd with an outside patio and large bar inside. About 8 taps of beer and honestly the first one i drank was very bad and i had to stop drinking it. I saw saison on the board and ordered it, i didnt see above that it said Lemon Pepper. Needless to say i wasn’t prepared after a heavy night of drinking at Dogfish head and had to switch to bottled swill.

Growlers is conveniently situated in the middle of Gaithersburg, with street parking all around the area. The interior dons high ceilings and a narrow area, but there are 3 levels. The place is very loud as sound caries very well and there is nothing really to absorb it. The service was rather slow. I tried an appetizer, and it was average. The prices are quite high for the beer; maybe this is a Montgomery County issue though. The beers were hit or miss; the Broken Shovel Stout was the best.

The beer was better than the venue. Open spaces and another safe place to take the family. Nothing too spectacular. The beer selection was solid with eight beers for the flight at the time.

Enjoyable brew-pup. Dining room nicely situated among giant vats. Menu is large enough to accomodate just about anyone, and there is a decent selection on tap. I’ve had a couple of their beers and found them to be aout average, if served a little too warm for my tastes. Nonetheless, a fun place to go and worthwhile to check out.

Nice looking place, but we had very slow service. Beer was not great, but the place has a good reputation in the area.

Good happy hour specials. Selection is ok. Decent ales but not that varied. Nice place for a date.

Nice, solid little brew pub in Old Town Gaithersburg. Usually have a decent selection of varying beers, and a decent food menu. It’s a nice little place if you’re in the general area. They have an upstairs/outdoor spot which is nice for grabbing a happy hour beer. Night time they also have had live music a few times when I was there.

I’ll be blunt - Growlers’ beers are pretty poor. Many have off flavors or other apparent defects. Still, they keep enough beers on tap that there is usually something decent, and they rotate the selection often enough that there’s often something new to try. And with drafts as low as $2.50 or $3 at times, it’s hard not to call it a bargain. Growlers gets a mixed crowd of 20- to 40-somethings that seems to lean toward the dressed-down local crowd. Overall, it’s a pretty good local joint, but the beers are not worth going out of your way for, in my opinion.

This is my local pub so there may be some bias in my opinion. Nevertheless, it is a well-maintained establishment with above par food, a low keyed environment and about 7 hand crafted beers, usually ales, on tap. Though several are misses, some, such as the Seneca Pale Ale and the Stout, are really enjoyable. Well made with moderate hops and decent body. Growlers is certainly worth a stop - you can then head up the road to Dogfish Head (See my reveiw).
