| NachlamSie (359), Tennessee | | May 24, 2012 Upon entering I am right in front of a full scale, functioning brewing system. To the left through some glass doors is where the actual pub is. Atmosphere in here is basic brewpub ambiance. The beer lineup is solid, not knock-my-sock-offs, but decent. | | Petronius (24), Seattle, Washington | | April 20, 2012 Service is hit or miss; love the shows at the Palladium. Food is delicious; solid beer, seasonal brews are the best. | | CheersMate (132), Fremont (Seattle), Washington | | December 18, 2011 Not terribly far from my apartment. For a late night guy like, their hours suck, but that’s only a minor annoyance. Hales has a friendly staff, so some of the complaints about their staff seems a little odd, but maybe they were having a great night. Some of their old traditions and quirky nuances seem to have fallen off of their radar. The bar has a nice quiet feel to it. It seems like you could have a relaxing dinner there and not be bothered. Here’s my problem with Hales - they’ve been around for quite some time, I believe, and I don’t think they’re too concerned with being a progenitor of the craft beer scene. I feel that a lot of places in Seattle have become complacent, and Hales is one of them. They’re coming out with these cool releases on a, somewhat, regular basis, but when you go to this place, you don’t feel that movement. They have the ability to be great, and this place shows that they need a good kick in the pants. Food is pretty good, as is the case with the beer. | TIMT (3), , does not count - explanation | | December 17, 2011 Love hales ales... don’t like the food and servers seem grumpy. | | adnielsen (277), Fort Collins, Colorado | | August 8, 2011 I walked here from the Maritime Pacific brewery which wasn’t too bad. I sat out on the porch which was nice, though my waitress wasn’t very attentive. Good brews nonetheless. Recommended. | | mabel (211), Toronto, Ontario | | July 13, 2011 2010-07. Visited late on a hot, sunny Saturday afternoon after a long day of drinking and walking last July, we sat on the couches by the windows and I think I may have fallen asleep at one point... It’s a nice big pub, a little like a quiet Jack Astor’s, with a fun breweriana section and quite a lot of seating. We didn’t have any food but tried a sampler of their brews; 11 were available, 3 of which were on nitro. The Super Goose and Mongoose IPAs were pretty good of the bunch we tried. Server was friendly enough but seemed bored. Might return but only if nearby again. | | CampesinoTino (57), Seattle, Washington | | May 30, 2011 Quality brewpub with lots of the brewing equipment on display inside a really nice space off Leary. The beers are an interesting mix of European styles and some hoppy IPAs. The menu is also pretty solid for pub grub. | | Apchron (10), Alabama | | February 17, 2011 Their seasonal beers are tasty. The brewpub has a good selection of beers. Good patio for summer afternoons. | | jerc (211), Toronto, Ontario | | July 18, 2010 2010-07. Cool view of the brewery as you walk in but the dining area is kind of weak. Feels kind of family restaurant like. Patio looked nice but it was a hot day so we opted for inside. Some nice leather love seats is where we ended up. Menu looked okay, we didn’t eat. Beer list had a couple of gems but was surprisingly disappointing. Server was friendly and gave us directions to our next stop. I wouldn’t make a special trip out here, especially if you have a limited amount of time in Seattle, but it worked into a nice combination of Brouwers, Hales, and Jolly Roger for an afternoon. | | theisti (273), Leawood, Kansas | | January 13, 2010 Visited on a rainy January Tuesday afternoon. Place was pretty slow, but did seem to have a few regulars hanging about. The Pub itself sits off to one corner in the middle of the production brewery. They did a nice job designing the space to be both a part of of the brewery and still be apart from the brewery, if that makes any sense. The bar and seating areas have a nice, worn classic pub feel. They serve their beers in a variety of sizes from taster to pitcher, which I always appreciate. Service was attentive, though not really that friendly. I was there during happy hour, and they had some really nice prices. I had a personal size sausage and mushroom pizza along with two schooners, and I think my total was below $10. Enjoyed the visist, not sure if I would put in in the upper tier of beer places in Seattle, but certainly worth the visit. |
