| IauditUUhateme (13), Coram, New York | | January 4, 2010 While killing some time as to spend less time with my annoying relatives, I popped in here to kill 15 minutes. About an hour later, I emerged $200 bucks lighter, and happy I had stopped in. While the service was good, I expected a bit more knowledge from a place this diverse. Prices were all over the place, but I found some great local stuff and growler fills for decent prices. A supermarket/warehouse feel that doesn’t work for me, but overall it is a must see store! | | Pwn3d (42), Manhattan, New York | | January 3, 2010 Stopped at this place to keep up some roadsodas for Beerquest 2010, very convenient for us since we picked up the RV down the street. The selection is impressive but not better than Stateline (Maryland/Delaware border). Prices were a bit higher than I would have expected... even some tiny bottle shops in Manhattan sell bottles for cheaper. Ambiance is warehouse style, but very clean. They have taps for growlers fills and a new release section.. very cool. Received 6 free glasses for spending over 300 dollars. | | SuIIy (45), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts | | January 2, 2010 Only had a short time to visit when I was in the area, but made a quick stop two times. Seems like a great selection. I grabbed a 6 pack of great lakes at my first stop, and a mixed 6 pack the second time. Had about 5-8 taps to try while browsing and can spend a lot of time browsing. I would love to live near a place like this. | | Poperinge (121), Cowtown, Alberta | | December 24, 2009 Totally found this place by surprise a great bottle shop with a staff that cares. Beer’s organized in countrys. | NPRugby11 (3), New York does not count - explanation | | December 16, 2009 One day on the way back to New Paltz from the Galleria I stopped in to see what all the fuss was about...turns out I discovered a full-on beer supermarket!! Absolutely massive selection from all over the world, and the only place around that carries Schlenkerla Rachbier. Prices are a bit high but you can’t beat the selection. | | JCB (37), Durham, North Carolina | | November 4, 2009 Stopped off here after a long haul, and was pleasantly surprised by the spacious, well-lighted, and - especially - majestically well-stocked store. Not that I expected slim pickings, based on the reviews I’d read, but I’m saying it exceeded expectations. Picked up some Captain Lawrence and Ithaca goodies, and wish I could have packed more. Suffice it to say that all major US micros are represented, as well as a comprehensive selection of regionals. Really good Belgian selection too, with plenty Cantillon. Plus, I went next door to a sweet joint called Crews (mods, it’s back open - unretire it!) and had a great convo with Matt the manager of Half Time. Awesome, and I will assuredly be back. | | njmoons (14), New Jersey | | September 21, 2009 Awesome, Simply Awesome
That said, why is it so awesome. Easy if I was to open a beer store I would just copy this one.
The huge store only has beer, a great start. It had aisles of beer. The first I went through had all American Micros, the second had all Belgian on one side and German’s on the other, the third had 4 or 5 other countries, another aisle had all seasonals.
Ok that was getting boring. They had kegs tapped for growlers, as variety of inexpensive glasswhere, blah, blah, blah.
My son is in college in Poughkeepsie, so each time I go up I will make a stop to restock my fridge with beers I can’t find anywhere near my home.
If your in the areas, I would suggest you check it out. | | agl108 (26), Manayunk, Pennsylvania | | January 5, 2009 Stopped here on my way north to Lake Placid. Very impressive selection, although perhaps I’m a bit spoiled being from PA. As previously mentioned, this place is just aisle upon aisle of glorious beer. Notable domestic micro absences were Bell’s and Founders’ beers. Really nothing new that I was able to find that I couldn’t at my hometown stop (The Beeryard). I was able to procure a long anticipated YuleSmith. However, let me say that being able to purchase singles is a huge bonus. There were also roughly 12 beers available for growler take-out service although none of those brews were particularly enticing or exceedingly rare. Staff was thankfully not overbearing but more than willing to help another customer with a growler when called upon. Spent ~$88 and didn’t get any free glassware, FWIW. Prices were a bit steep overall. | | j12601 (65), Poughkeepsie, New York | | October 11, 2008 It’s rare that I walk into Half-Time and leave with anything less than a full cart. And yes, that’s even when I stop in just to pick up a 6 pack. There are typically about 12 beers on tap, some of which are quite rare, and never make a showing in a bottle.
Selection of micros is the best I’ve ever come across, though being rather greedy, there are always a few more that I would like to see.
Staff is knowledgeable and helpful, but unobtrusive and laid back enough that they pretty much leave you alone unless you look lost, or go ask them about things. | rds (3), does not count - explanation | | September 11, 2008 First visit today and I will surely be back soon despite the 50 mile drive. I could spend an hour wandering around this immaculate, well-lit place without handling the same brand twice. Very professionally run, yet friendly store. By the bottle or pack, the selection is impressive. If you are in the area, you owe it to yourself to stop by. |
