23 reviews for Herkimer Pub and Brewery
| GJF (22), Cedar Rapids, Iowa | | August 3, 2009 This is a very non-descript, fairly typical brewpub. The beers are all very similar and the food is pretty standard. There’s nothing wrong with the place, but it’s certainly not a place to go out of your way to try. | | tennisjoel (29), Shakopee, Minnesota | | June 20, 2009 This place has awful acoustics. It was hard to speak to my wife, who was literally across the table from me. It didn’t help that there was a pretty obnoxious group sitting two tables away from us. I was hoping to get the Gose, which they had advertised on the website. Unfortunately, it won’t be available until fall. My wife order the light beer, which was full of diecytal. The hefeweizen was okay. Still not sold on this place, even though many people say it’s improving. | | maniac (90), Richmond, Virginia | | June 1, 2009 Visited on 05/31/2009. Happened to get here during happy hour which is a 2 for 1 pint special. No sampler available here, but the bartender gave me a few samples of the beers that I did not have by the pint. They also have appetizer specials during happy hour of which the quesidillas were great. Friendly staff, and also conveniently located near Moto-i for your sake fix.
| | BVery (25), Burnsville, Minnesota | | May 14, 2009 Beer is marginal to decent - nothing spectacular. The food seems to be fairly standard bar fare. Atmosphere is a typical bar. Basically, this place doesn’t suck, but it doesn’t stand out either. | | beastiefan2k (108), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas | | January 12, 2009 Been here a few times now. Looks like a regular burger restaurant with some fermentors, not impressive. Have not had fast service when I have visited. The food is average-above average pub fair. The beer is very good though. Always a few different styles, all German and all done well. Lots of character to them and not cheap bland Germans. A place that makes a Gose and a Berliner Weisee while totting one of the best Keller beers I have tried is damn good in my book. | | kmweaver (113), Sebastopol, California | | September 21, 2008 Solid selection of German style beers, including a Kellerbier and Gose (at least when we stopped by). Maybe ten beers on tap total, and solid 2-for-1 drink specials for happy hour, even on the weekend. Table shuffleboard wins an extra point for ambiance. The area is more than a bit pretentious, but the German renditions were solid and the beer was cheap. Definitely worth a stop to try some good German beers that you probably aren’t going to find anywhere else. | | Steib (10), Queen Creek, Arizona | | August 26, 2008 Visited on vacation on a weekday afternoon. Interesting mix of locals. Good beers had the daily pils and the gose beer, very nice. Good selection on tap. | | theisti (114), Leawood, Kansas | | May 8, 2008 [ Updated May 15, 2009 ] Visited for lunch on a Monday. Nice open layout that is a nice compromise between restaurant and bar. Varied musical selection kept things interesting. I ordered the Puerco mini-burgers and they were very tasty, though be warned that mini is not just a clever name. Also ordered the pretzels - they were not fresh at all and tasted like they had been reheated from the night before. Jalapeno mustard was really good though. Free wifi. Good place. | | Stine (59), St. Paul , Minnesota | | May 6, 2008 Admittedly I just wanted a nice pils today. Also I’d never been, and wanted to give it a try. Uptown. Lots of would be hippies and young professionals complaining about their insubstantial love lives. That’s the way the ambiance always is in this neighborhood. Nice place, though. There’s a patio and that’s all I need today. Waitress knows very little about what’s going on beerwise but she’s friendly and quick. No kellerbier on tap which was a big disappointment. A temper tantrum, and a vienna instead, which was quite good, full of toasted malts and a palpable, subtle depth. Chicken club sandwich to follow, which was also quite good. Maibock after that which was subpar, overly salty, lightly skunky. The beers seem to have this weird, icy sweetness for a house character. Even the dortmunder had a bit of it lingering beneath its clean, grassy bitterness. I dig the german styles though, and to me it’s pretty cool that they stick to that. This is hardly a location for a beer geek. Rather it’s a different type of brewpub that’s doing something simple, understated and quite polished, at least from what I gathered on this one visit. Great as a breath of fresh air, but not recommendable to travelers given all the other great beer that’s around. I’ll be back, hoping for that berliner weiss. | BottleNeck (5), Minneapolis, Minnesota does not count - explanation | | April 11, 2008 This is an OK place to get a beer. The selection leans heavily to what I assume is the brewer’s taste. When I went there was no pale ale to be found. It gets busy and loud pretty quick after 5. The beers are good, but not great. I’d expect more from a brew pub, but for a bar it’s above average. |
