BeerBuss (1), Illinois does not count - explanation | | February 4, 2012 Excellent spot for a great meal and awesome beers. I wish I could bring my kids there so I could go more often. | | justinwmaynard (10), Chicago, Illinois | | January 28, 2012 Hop Leaf is insane when it comes to their selection of craft beers. They have tons of local options, both draft and bottled beers. Besides the bar being insaley packed most of the time, everything else about their place is excellent. Staff, food, beer... all excellent! | brian60625 (3), Illinois does not count - explanation | | January 19, 2012 Hop Leaf gets PACKED on weekend nights, but rightfully so. It has a huge selection of hard-to-come-by beers and the set-up is very nice in a vintage sort of way. A little pricey. They’re around the corner from Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind, and I recommend you make a night out of it. | | wedgie9 (31), Nashville, Tennessee | | December 27, 2011 This is one of the better beer bars I have been to throughout the country. They are built on Belgians, but also have a very impressive domestic craft selection as well, in both bottles and on draft. The bartenders are always super friendly, and even when it gets busy, it is never a long wait for a beer. The beers are priced competitively for the Chicago market, and always served in the proper glassware. The food here costs a bit more than at most pubs or bars, but it is also much higher quality than most pubs and bars, making it well worth the price. | patsmitty (3), Illinois does not count - explanation | | December 1, 2011 I liked this place a lot. Went in and enjoyed an Ommegang Reserve. A little pricey, but worth the trip into town for sure. Great place to hang out with friends and drink a cold one. I will have to try the food next time. Kitchen didn’t open until 5pm the day I went which was a Friday. Also, they sell logoed beer glasses for only $5! | | 79MPH (10), | | November 29, 2011 If you love traditional beers from their respective countries, served at the proper temperature, in the correct glassware, this if the ultimate place to be. Love the hard to find beers, traditional beers, and classic beers served here. Take in 5 or 6 beers and then go to a Cubs home game by way of 4 minute cab ride. Can’t really express how great a place this is. Just bring your VISA, things can get real ugly real fast in terms of $$$. | | chicagodri (57), Chicago, Illinois | | November 26, 2011 Good food, great selection, and fairly good service. Nice place to get a lot of beer on tap and in bottles. Only downside is that it can get a little crowded at times. | | MrChopin (89), Baltimore, Maryland | | November 21, 2011 [ Updated November 23, 2011 ] Old cherry-wood bar, seats 25, tables seat another 20 at the front with back seats tucked way behind in a separate room. Low lighting, talky vibe, light through huge glass windows at front, service very nice, taps kicking as we sat there, nice tap variety and several local rarities. A bit dead at 6p on a Friday, I normally like more of a vibe, but very old character with considerable charm. The location is a bit tough so far North. | | nbondi (34), Chicago, Illinois | | November 2, 2011 Cool, hip, often crowded beer Mecca in Chicago. Worth a trip with these caveats. Expect that several things on the beer list will be sold out. They do not update the menus frequently, and the interesting stuff has almost always been sold out for months. At peak times, this place is packed. Prepare to wait. That said, ham sandwich and frites are epic. Seriously. Best ham sandwich ever. Menu does not disappoint. If you’re a fan of Belgians, this is by far the best place to find them in Chicago. Bartenders are some of the most knowledgeable in the city, but can, as can be expected, be a little short when the bar is busy. Prices are in line with other Chicago beer bars. | | LilBeerDoctor (185), East Setauket, New York | | August 1, 2011 Great beer bar in northern Chicago. No real wait for a table on a Wednesday night, although the place was pretty crowded. They have a pretty incredible tap list, about 20 American offerings (including locals) and 20 Belgian offerings. Definitely a great place if you’re looking for Belgians. Of their 40 taps, plenty of interesting stuff, it would be hard not to find something you wanted. They also have many many bottled offerings, nothing too crazy, but again, they’ve got plenty. Beers were typically $6 and served in the appropriate glassware. The food menu is great. A little pricy, especially the entrees, although the sandwiches are reasonable ($12-16). I got a duck reuben sandwich which was stellar. Overall, a great bar in Chicago, definitely a place to stop. |
