shaon94 (6), , does not count - explanation | | November 18, 2009 [ Updated November 19, 2009 ] Ambiance is good, though it takes a hit for being so crowded all the time if you just want to go up to the bar.
Service is almost always spot on. Though there are times when it is at its busiest and they only have 2 bartenders which is annoying.
Selection of beer is outstanding in my opinion. Yeah there are other establishments around that sell micro brews that you can pay double what you would pay in a store. Or you can come here and get beer straight out of the tanks that you can get no where else but here for cheaper. Get a sampler and try them all find one you like. Personally I have only found one beer that I did not like at all. (the Scottish Ale) The only reason i gave it a 10 out of 15 is the fact that some of the beers, though not bad, are not great either. I have yet to bring someone here that did not find something they liked. Most took home a growler, unless they lived close.
Food is good and priced well. I HIGHLY recommend the Kielbasa and Sauerkraut.
Value - Two meals, an appetizer, and Two beers each, tax and tip Less than 30 dollars for each person = Great value in my book. I have paid more elsewhere for less.
Overall I am a mug club member and signed up on here specifically to rate this place. That about sums it up. if you are in the area your crazy not to try this! | | Beerapprentice (11), Hopatcong, New Jersey | | November 14, 2009 I liked this place better than the location in or near Philadelphia. Sure they didn’t have a lot of the same things on draft but this place is just opening up so hopefully it will improve. Nice atmosphere, the service was pretty good and the beer was...uh, decent, I guess. Food menu needs a ton of work at this location and the one near Philly. Not everyone is a carnivore! | godspunk32 (4), , does not count - explanation | | October 23, 2009 Finally! A real beer place in South Jersey! Right? Wrong. This place has beers with low ABV, little flavor, and what flavor there is, tastes like dirt. Honestly, I’ve been to both the Iron Hill in Maple Shade three times (live around the corner) and the one in Wilmington twice, and each time the beer tastes like dirt. The food is very expensive and not at all as good as the Blue Monkey or even PJ’s! The only beer I was absolutely wild over was their Russian Imperial Stout, but that was $20/bottle (750 ml). My tip, go to Blue Monkey or High Street. They don’t brew their own beers, but the ambiance is better, food is worlds better, the bartenders know their beer, and they’re much cheaper. | | dmac (27), Toms River, New Jersey | | October 15, 2009 Newly opened and I have visited twice already. BIg high ceilings and a very open large front bar area with lots and lots of tables makes this feel a little more like a restaurant then a brewpub. The beer seletion is house brewed only except for super rare occasions like the keg of Flying Fish Exit 4 they are tapping soon which will be the first non house beer they have had if I am remembering correctly. That being said their house beers will not dissapoint and there are always lots of seasonals on which normally includes a Belgian style. The food is a little bit better then your normal pub fare but you will also pay for that. Growler fills available and even some rarer bottles that you can take home. Great website that is constantly updated as well. | | Adam77 (12), Eastampton, New Jersey | | October 5, 2009 Saw a commerical yesterday that there was an Iron Hill location 15 minutes from me. YAY! Haha. So I stopped by to pick up a growler of something. I got the Pig Iron Porter of whatever it’s called. Kind of upscale looking but whatever. I walked in with sweats and tee shirt. Just got done mowing the lawn. I could feel the eyes on me. Pretty sweet growler machine. Decent work done by the hot bartender. Haha. Can’t wait the the better shit to come in. $15 growler. $12 refills. Not bad. | | EithCubes (76), Indiana | | August 21, 2009 My least favorite IH location of three I’ve been to, a packed little Thursday night throwdown that began with insufficient parking. Food was good but as usual a bit too expensive for the market, decor was standard for the chain (though wasn’t this in or around a restaurant that burned down? That might’ve been incorporated somehow). Beers were as expected but the new waitstaff doesn’t quite seem to have gotten the hang of things yet - enthusiasm without the underlying knowledge. Was given a ras-wheat instead of a West Coast Golden. | stef92 (2), Williamstown, New Jersey does not count - explanation | | August 14, 2009 Nice new location. Beer selection was terrific and beers were excellent. Food was pretty good but a little pricey. Service was excellent. Definitely worth the trip! |
