My pick for my best bar in town. Just outside the downtown, this is a really nice semi-elegant feeling place that is casual at the same time. Almost 20 taps, pretty well-chosen. 5 oz tasters available of everything, priced per beer, usually $2-3, very reasonable for a bar. They had a big food menu too with tons of vegan(-izable) options, as they make their own homemade seitan. Pricey food men though. Friendly service but not terribly knowledgeable about beer. Worth a visit.

Julian’s is located across the bridge from downtown, within a half mile of the convention center which was easy walking distance from my hotel. No A/C which was a bit of a problem on an unusually hot weekend night, but they also have outdoor seating. Definitely more of a dive bar feel except a number of taps of unusual/rare beer. They had a number of offerings from Belgium and Germany along with some good regional brews. There’s a number of vegetarian/vegan things on the menu, but the hamburger is also excellent and the large fries come in a legit bowl. The service was friendly especially after I invoked their buy a round for the kitchen special which I think is a splendid idea. All and all cool vibe, great beer, tasty food, good service, and all at reasonable prices. I’d love to go back.

Came to this excellent beer bar some time ago. They had a Hofstettner bock on tap and some other rare beers. Overall really liked the place.

I just don’t see the appeal here. Tried to walk in Sat at 2:30PM and was overwhelmed with the smell of cigarette smoke- this was on the hipster’s clothing. I have been before and it wasn’t this bad- people would not move to let people pass. The draft list isn’t that impressive. I was only interested in one beer left over from the Evil Twin takeover. New chef’s food looks interesting. Will try again on a weekday,

No visit to Providence is complete without a visit to Julian’s. It is located westward of central providence, but still well within walking distance. It is a relatively small, dimly lit (perhaps overly so) restaurant-bar. We visited mid-week for dinner and yet the place was still pretty busy. First-off the food was excellent and I would certainly return just for that. They offer a rather nice draught selection of some 20 lines with a healthy mix of local, regional and international beers. This included some sour Allagash beers, which I didn’t even see in Maine. Beers are available in a range of sizes, so we got to try quite a few. The bottle selection had some rarer and vintage beers on it (including some Mamouche), but you certainly have to be prepared to pay for it! Without question the top venue in town for eating a supping quality beer.

If I could describe my perfect restaurant, Julian’s would be it. I stopped in last Sunday night after my flight was canceled, and my visit made me glad I got stuck in Providence for an extra night. The beer selection is amazing - a great mix of local, European, and super-rare beers. They also have small pours, which was perfect for being able to try more of their selection at a reasonable price. The food was also delicious - I had the hangar steak and the soup of the day. The service was nothing short of impeccable! I sat at the bar, and all the guys were very friendly and kept me company. I can’t say enough great things about this place - I truly loved it.

Our second stop on our PVD city tour. Great European selection of beers, literally wanted to try every one. The food menu is not that big but the specials board has a lot on it. There are not many bar seats here, it’s mostly table seating, which we didn’t mind. It’s a really funky décor in an up and coming neighborhood. Good times!

Great time, classic West End restaurant that focuses on good beers you’ve probably never heard of.

Big gripe is that I wish there was more bar stools, and the lighting is kinda weird. But, they always have funky euro beers that I have never heard of (sours, and belgians) and that is awesome. They also serve food about an hour after everyone else closes the kitchen and they are open on Mondays.
