| northropfrye (47), Steinbach, Manitoba | | May 21, 2012 No taps, but a great bottle list. Had stuff like Mikkeller Beer Geek Breakfast that I didn’t find anywhere else in Calgary. Staff is not really knowledgable, but friendly and helpful. A nice list of high end bottles, though expensive. | nemeab (5), Alberta does not count - explanation | | April 26, 2012 This is a coffee place with one of the most eclectic beer menus in the city. Some real gems mixed in with tried and true favorites. I will most definitely be back! | orhay (9), , does not count - explanation | | April 21, 2012 Great selection of craft and import beers. Love this place. | | gmylonas (10), Alberta | | April 21, 2012 Great serious coffee place ! | | thehead92 (12), Calgary, Alberta | | March 28, 2012 Come for the coffee; stay for the BEER! | | patricks110 (28), Alberta | | January 26, 2011 A very good little place. On the expensive side, but alot of the bottles are well aged. The KGB from Alley Kat is a personal favourite. Good service usually and great place to sit and chat. | | hamfisted (28), Calgary, Alberta | | January 7, 2011 Compared to other places in town that offer the same concept (I’m looking at you, Bottle House), Kava actually gets it right. A great selection of well-chosed bottles, non-slimy servers and a comfortable atmosphere. I’m usually more of a pub type, but even this coffee/wine bar feels okay. | | Maltybones (17), Calgary, Alberta | | September 14, 2010 This is a great little gem in Calgary. Simply put, this little espresso bar has the best bottle list in the city, hands down. When they say they have 80+ beers, it truly does mean micro and craft.....they are not trying to pull the wool over your eyes with a multitude of AB-InBev offerings. Alex, the beer manager, is very knowledgeable and is a great guy to sit and talk beer with. If a customer has a suggestion for something they’d like to see on the beer list, he’ll look into it and try to make it happen. The care they show in selecting their beer menu, always having proper glassware on hand and the frequent beer tastings and dinners they host show that they are really trying to carve out a niche in the Calgary beer scene. Good food, great coffee, a fairly diverse wine list for non-beer geek friends and a comfy-casual atmosphere make this a great place to just hang out and spend a night. | | TimE (189), Tokyo, Japan | | August 2, 2010 [ Updated December 24, 2010 ] A very good espresso bar with good coffee that has a regularly rotating line-up of bottle beers. The bottle beers change a bit every two weeks, but what needs to be noted is that Alex, the beer guy, knows his stuff. Good mix of domestic and import, with lots of seasonals and some beers that are hard to find in Calgary, ie. Alley Kat KGB Russian Imperial Stout. Reasonable prices, great food - with a few E. European treats like cold beet soup in the summer. Live music. Nice place, but it is definitely a cafe, not a bar, but the vibe is very good. Good selection of wine as well. Staff is very friendly and seem somewhat clued into the beer, even though they are mainly pouring coffee. Only a 3 min walk to Brewsters on 11th Ave. This should be a must stop while in Cowtown, especially as a tourist, as the Canadian/Alberta bottle selection is very well chosen. Also note that the beers listed on the website are not up-to-date. I think rotation is too frequent to keep an accurate list. Note that this place can get packed. Highly recommended. |
