| Boutip (33), Gatineau, Quebec | | August 26, 2009 This brewpub is centrally located in Montreal and easy access through the subway. Nice building with high ceilings and hardwood all over the place. Service is not bad though sometime can be somewhat inattentive to the customers. The selection is really good with most beer ranging from good to excellent – they are really masters in the German style of brewing. Price are very reasonable and while I didn’t have anything to eat the food appeared to be very good. | | TheJester (20), Peterborough, Ontario | | August 24, 2009 Visited during Mondial 2009. My lasting impression is that even though the place was busy, there is no excuse for the service we got. We were seated right away. At a table that had been cleared, but not cleaned. But it took ten minutes for someone to take our drink orders. At this time, we requested menus. Ten minutes later, our beers arrived, but no menus. About half way through or beers, we flagged someone down to request menus. No one came back. Ever. We finished our beers, threw some money on the table, and laft. Too bad. The place looks nice. Some of the food that other people were eating looked pretty good. Not fancy, but good for a brewpub. Too bad. We had hoped to try a few more of their beers. The selection wasn’t bad. | | Tim Webb (40), Cambridge, England | | August 18, 2009 I rate this place higher than many others because it doesn’t try to what it is not and does well what it sets out to do. Lots of wood helps. Food is above average for regular bar fodder and there are some highlights. No duds anong the beers either. | | JoeMcPhee (262), Jackson Heights, New York | | July 5, 2009 Oddly laid out bar that stretches over two split levels, both indoor and out. High atrium inside near the window. Short stubby bar on the lower lever... really strange looking place that seems to be designed to make the servers job difficult. Now, onto the good. The lagers here really are that good. Crisp, clean and delicious, they were like taking a step into the Czech Republic without leaving Montreal. Had a reasonably tasty sandwich, but nothing earth-shattering. Definitely a must-do on any Montreal pub crawl. | | j12601 (52), Poughkeepsie, New York | | April 8, 2009 Beautiful wood decor and low(er than needed) lighting make this a warm inviting space. Good sized crowd for a Wednesday night. Didn’t have any food (yet, going back tomorrow for lunch), but it looks like a small but sturdy menu from a small but sturdy kitchen behind the bar. 10 of their own beers on tap, and the ones I tried were good. Friendly service. | | presario (105), Calgary, Alberta | | March 15, 2009 The black out curtain at the door hides the first step so be careful! Beers, staff and ambience were average. Food was pretty good with rabbit and buffalo on the menu. | | PilsnerPeter (95), Flushing, New York | | January 5, 2009 Nice dimly lit bar with high ceilings. The bartender was helpful and accessible. All the beers were solid-to-pretty good. I also encountered a beer loving local who started a nice conversation about local beer establishments. We even chatted about the local places in New York City which he had knowledge about, such as Barcade, Spuyten Duyvil, and all the other hot spots from back home. As far as the actual place, the session beers are solid, and they have a diverse array of styles offered. Cool spot. | | elihapa (62), Honolulu, California | | October 9, 2008 Went here with my girlfriend about 5 months ago. I remember a cozy environment that was bustling for dinner on a Friday night. Seems like there are a lot of regulars. We had some of their beers and some of their food, both of which were excellent. The salads, appetizers and pizzas here are stellar. As for the beer, I would consider them a bit tame, but nonetheless well crafted and in good variety. I will definitely be back. | | notalush (159), Denver, Colorado | | August 24, 2008 My wife an I made a point to come here after a day of walking around in the summer heat, because we heard they had great lagers and session ales - we were not disappointed - about 10 beers on tap, most of them in the above-mentioned category - the ones we had were quite good - the place itself was set up nicely - lots of smooth, light wooden tables and chairs - clean interior - small patio out on a busy street in the oh-so-hip latin quarter - the service was so-so, as was the food, but it was a good enough place to grab a great beer after a long, thirst-inducing walk. | MurfDog (5), Waterford, Michigan does not count - explanation | | August 13, 2008 Pretty solid beer offerings with a nice variety available - probably 8 or 10 beers on tap the night I was there. Food selection is pretty basic - appetizers, burgers & pizza.
They have a nice Dunkel Weizen which is rather rare in North America. I felt the Pale could use more hoppiness. The Porter is good & solid. The Stout Imperial is definitely the smoothest & creamiest choco/java stout I have ever tasted. Since they don’t have growlers or six packs (all product must be consumed on-premises) I stayed for a second pint of the exquisite Stout Imperial.
Any (every) time I return to Montreal i’ll also return to L’amere a boire for a pint of the Dunkel Weizen followed by a pint (or two) of the Stout Imperial!
