We visited here on Saturday 12th January during Whittlesey Straw Bear festival, an annual event which sees a straw bear paraded around town to the accompaniment of about 40 + Morris sides and a huge gathering of townsfolk and others like myself and Loz from further afield. The pub is situated on a corner and is a freehouse, when we visited they had Oakham Straw Bear, Elgoods Straw Beer, and Tydd Steam Beartown, with another beer that I forget. The beers were in great nick and the bar was rammed. There were two bars, however I only managed to get to one owing to the large amount of people here. I understand that the pub got itís unusual name owing to the fact that many years ago there were so many pubs in Whittlesey that they felt that they were running out of pub names and so started going through the alphabet, how true that is I donít know but it is certainly an unusual name. However this is a very decent pub in a town with a reasonable amount of good pubs.
