Stopped in on Monday to check this place out. It has a legendary reputation in Ohio. Stories of some of the hardest to find beer on the planet being on tap or in bottles any day of the week. Well, it did not disappoint. Aside from their own brews, which are amazing, they had a dozen or so guest beers. I had been trying to get Firestone Walker Velvet Merkin for a few years and there it was. There was no Bourbon County left on the shelves but they had it. Definitely worth the trip. Just a heads up, the kitchen is closed on Mondays.

Walking in the door you are immediately greeted with the vibe of a local tavern. The selection offers a couple of "local" drafts which are done by either Central Waters or Against the Grain along with additional regional drafts. My only real complaint might be the fact that the prices were not listed on the board at the time I visited a few years ago. For the most part they are in line with Chicago but some border on $9 or $10 a handle. Even so I’d consider this place a "must visit" at least once during a trip to Chicago.

This place is bad ass. Tons of taps. Chill dive bar feel - totally metal. Yet relaxed, but it’s late on a Wednesday. Free park right out front. No flights, which blows.

Can’t beat a place that blasts good metal music the whole night long. Had a ton of good beer on tap and the food is excellent.
They stay open ridiculously late. Awesome atmosphere and the staff really know their beer.

Located a good 10 min walk from Fullerton station past DePaul university is this icon of the Chicago beer scene. Similar to Yokohama’s Trashzone in that it has a very metal theme but Local Option has much more of a worn in dive bar feel that I love. Service here is also way WAY friendlier than TZ but they don’t do tasters just one size that matches the style(so high ABV beers come in smaller sizes). The bartender was really welcoming & chill and gave me the run down on the Local Option beers. Cool dark bar lit with the neon glow of beer signs. Really nice tap list with tons of Local Option beers + Three Floyd’s Gumballhead and Alpha King as well as a bunch of other stuff but they tends to be over 6% so not exactly a place for sessionable beers. Good fun though, this would have been my local back in the day. I got myself a Zombie Dust to start off an enjoyable evening.

Small location, seems quite dive bar-ish on the inside with lovely death metal & heavy shredded music playing through the speakers. Burly, bearded servers all over the place, but don’t be fooled by their gruff appearance; all of them were incredibly nice, helpful, & very knowledgeable about their beer selections! A nice assortment of taps, including a good spread of their own beers, along with both local & not so local drafts. Did not order food this time, but the menu looked like standard pub fare. Nice place that I’ll be sure to stop at whenever I’m back in Chicago!

In a student neighbourhood, with a student bar feel to it. Selection is pretty solid with some nice hard to find stuff. Food is fine, music is quite loud. Ok bar if your into metal and students.

Local beer bar in my own backyard. Frequent LO often during the year for just meeting up with friends for a beer and some pub like cajun food or for all of their special events that have the majority of the tap list wanting any beer nerd to die for. Ambiance isn’t for everyone as its layout and location are great but some may not appreciate their taste in blasting Metallica and Slayer during its busiest times, but this the bars character and always will be. The service is always great in light of how busy it gets most weekends. The food has always been good for their po-boys and other cajun dishes. Prices can be a little high at times but hard not to charge them when you put together some of the tap list of beers they over on a regular basis. Bottle list is small but usually carrying some nice lambics or other more limited goodness. Overall a must visit bar if ever in Chicago especially if you can be so lucky to wander in during one of their unbelievable beer events. Highly recommended.
