Good food good beer nice setting but woefully slow service, I almost died of thirst the 3 times I ordered beer. Luckily the quality was almost worth the wait.

Visited on a Sunday evening in July ’12 between a change of trains at the HBF. Tram runs pretty much door to door but you can walk it in little over 10 minutes. Large beirkeller but we chose to sit outside the main building in an open area but with a porch over our heads. The place wasn’t particularly busy but the weather wasn’t great on this evening. Service was the usual German style of efficient but not over friendly from our 40 something female server. Had a half litre of Triumphator which went down well. Didn’t eat although the food we saw being brought out looked good. I’d certainly come here again perhaps for a more extended session, but usueful for a quick half litre if you have an hour to kill at the HBF.

Huge, traditional place with a great ambiance that pours some of the best beer in town. Vegetarian options.

Traditional and massive bierkeller. We (a party of 11 blokes) sampled the shared platter buffet affair, which was supremely good value and contained many meaty, savoury items. Lowenbrau beer is excellent, so you can’t go far wrong here.

Great castle looking building with multiple rooms. Selection is slightly better than in other places. You can even curle outside. Food was excellent too.

Big open place on the north side. I seriously think my group was the only one there but it was a rainy November (2010) afternoon and not many were out in general. We had time for one beer and I was excited to see a dunkelweizen on the menu. Then, to my horror, I was brought a Franziskaner dunkel. Forgot that Löwenbräu is owned by spaten-franziskaner. Douh! So a pretty mundane place. Never did get around to trying Triumphator while in town either. Too much other, probably better beer to be had. I wouldn’t bother trying to get here again.

Loved this place and can’t remember why. Our bierwench stuffed up our order on numerous visits (yeah, same lady, again, damn!) and always went off in a huff. The female toilet attendant was all too keen to simply sit inside the men’s and perv, and one half of the interior was dedicated to post-nouveau ’clublife’ most weekends. Oh, and the beer is Löwenbräu - the simpler, more widely accepted of the Munich ’6’. Still, I love it for the fact with all that it still retains its pride as a grand bierhall, a fantastic, spacious and serene biergarten with great food available and German efficiency showing in their speedy delivery. And the retention of minor historical moments still bleed from the very walls of this place. A grand bierhall, even if our waiter kept stuffing with my Dunkel!

One of the largest brewpubs/restaurants in Munich. Unfortunately the brews are worst of the large breweries in Munich.

Triumphator! Schweinhacken! Weisswurst! Octoberfest! What more do you need to visit this marvelous beergarten? And yeah, we reserved table six months in advance...
