csbosox | About the best selection on the KC, Mo side. Prices are good. Extensive mix a six. I would direct out of town people to this store above all others. My one problem with the place is it closes pretty early at night.

| rader58 | If you want a TRUE selection of beers, this is the place. They carry many craft beers of the region and some hard to find imports. (Side note: Their Wine and Liquor selection is extensive too.)

HomeBrewHawk | If you were to make one stop in Kansas City to buy beer, this would be it. Lots of space devoted to craft beer. Wide selection of American micros, Belgians, and other European beers as well as cider. Lots of cooler space for good beer. Good selection for build you own six pack, both warm and cold. You should be able to find someone there who can answer beer questions. They hold weekly tastings as well as some other special events.
If you are into wine, they have a fantastic selection as well as a wine bar next door.

Gregis | Pretty much the beer-Mecca for about a 150 mile radius around Kansas City. You would have to drive about 3 hours to Omaha or Wichita, or 4 hours to St. Louis to find a comparable selection of craft beer. Picture a store the size of your local Wal-Mart and replace all of the shelves full of diapers, auto supplies and miscellaneous consumer goods with wine, beer and liquor. 2 shelves that run the length of the store display American micros, regional brews and beers from around the world. If you can get it in Missouri, including most special releases, it’s usually here, at least while it lasts. The entire back of the store is a row of cooler doors all of which are devoted to beer (save a few) and the majority of that space is for craft beer. The BMC stuff gets about a third of it and a the majority of a large open floor area on the north side of the store. Phil, the beer manager, is a good guy and keeps the store’s beer blog (link above) updated every few weeks. You can mix-a-six from about 250-300 different beers (on the shelf or in the cooler), but unfortunately you can’t break the higher end 4 or 6 packs. So, if you want to try the 12oz barley wines, impy stouts, specialties and imports, you’ll have to pony up for the whole pack. If you’re driving through the area, this is the place to go, and it’s only a few miles south of the loop.

| seamus77 | the costco of liquor stores is a more apt description of this place. they have a nice selection, no doubt about it, beats the hell outta gomers (what happened to them?!) and they have everything royal has, just more of it. it’s cleaner and has more room than gomers or royal, but has an empty carvernous warehouse feel. nice prices though it’s not worth driving way the hell out to 135th for, especially when they were closed for thanksgiving. in the right plart of town and with a little less vacant feeling, this could be an amazing store...but it isn’t, unless you need a couple dozen bottles of outdated tusker or a couple cases of crappy gluten-free beer. kc is destined to remain pitifully low on the beer-culture radar.

theisti | I live equal distance to Lukas and Royal. I hit both, but over the past six months I think Lukas has eclipsed Royal for selection and overall beer focus. Incredible selection. Good array of make your six pack. Tasting everyday Saturday.

Indra | Quite a bit out of the way for me but worth the trip. Great selection here and prices are right. Absolutely on top of the bottled beer scene in KC at the moment, and the one stop I’d recommend anyone from out of town make if possible.

tjthresh | Quickly becoming the best beer store in KC, if its not already. Currently in the process of adding 60 or so new beers. Jeremy is happy to help and knows what’s going on. Most of the beer is on shelves, but lights are kept low. Bell’s Expedition Stout is the class of the selection. Loads of other regional items. Lots of Belgians, lamics, English ales. I hope they get more new stuff soon.
