| Travlr (639), Washington, Washington DC | | February 27, 2012 Sleek and modern brewpub with some brightening tanks plunked down in the middle. Three handpulls, although only one was on during my visit. Beers are OK, available in 4 four ounce pours fir six bucks. . No complaints. | | fredandboboflo (62), East Setauket, New York | | February 10, 2012 Beer with brunch at 10am, sweet! And one of the most comprehensive tap (and cask) lists you’ll find at a brewpub without any duds. Quite the opposite in fact. Lots of food options as well. Place looked nice, hard to get a sense of the more typical ambiance at 10 in the morning. Regarding the beer though, a true beer geek’s brewpub. | | blipp (68), Newark, New Jersey | | January 31, 2012 Really nice place not far outside of D.C. Stopped in with my dad on our way to visit my sister, who lives in the city. Flight of 4 - 4 oz. samples are 6 bucks, which is a steal, and honestly, the glasses seemed a bit bigger than 4 ozs to me. The food and beer were all pretty good, and fairly priced as well, 2 sandwiches and 2 flights ran us about 35 bucks. Entree style meals were obviously more, but my sandwich was more than filling. Our server was very friendly, and even comped me an extra sample since they had 9 beers on tap and the samplers came in sets of 4. Great place, certainly worth stopping in if you’re in the area. | dlovell2 (3), Columbia, Maryland does not count - explanation | | January 26, 2012 Nice set up. Bar is really nice with the dark wood and the brewing tanks. We had good service. The food and the beer are the highlight of the experience. You can tell they put a lot of thought and care into these. The Frickles (fried pickles) were great and the desert option of fried cheese cake was amazing. Great selection of different brews. I had a sampler and each beer was great. Some interesting options. I wish I lived closer. | | LilBeerDoctor (185), East Setauket, New York | | December 4, 2011 A great brewpub in Falls Church. Stopped by on a Sunday morning for brunch and it was fairly empty. This is a large establishment with a long bar, lots of tables, and booths against the windows to look out onto the street. All very new and well-kept. The beer list was quite impressive - lots of choose from and some interesting styles too (I tried one of the IPAs, a keller-kolsch, black saison, and saison and all were excellent). The quality of the beers was quite impressive (originally only meant to get a pint each, but had to get more after the first one!). The food was great too - I had one of the omelettes which was very tasty. No complaints about the service here. Overall, a great stop and I would love to return! | | kassner (53), Wexford, Pennsylvania | | October 6, 2011 I was here twice. really good own beers, unique but not too far from authentic style offered, served in proper glassware. Pizza was great, prices were fair , staff was hospitable, other guests hospitable, clean friendly and knowledgeable. The owner shared with me as many other good establishments he knew along Route 7 and 15 complementing most. | | michael-pollack (100), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania | | September 26, 2011 Nice brew-pub space. Terrible service. Decent selection of their beers on tap. Decent, but no better, food. Reasonable prices. Might try it again for the beer, not the food. | | Thorpe429 (36), Alexandria, Virginia | | September 1, 2011 [ Updated May 14, 2012 ] I’ve been to Mad Fox at least twice a month since it opened last year, and I have certainly become a fan of Bill’s beers.
The atmosphere is quite nice. Fairly upscale for a brewpub, but everything is pretty low-key. I’ve never sat in the dining area away from the bar, instead picking tables or booths around the bar with groups or just sitting at the bar when it is only my wife and me. The service started pretty hit or miss from the waitstaff, though it has gotten progressively better. The service at the bar has always been quite good.
The quality is quite high. Really nice assortment of menu items and I’ve liked all that I’ve had to date. The beer list is generally pretty expansive. There seem to always be at least 8-10 beers on tap with a new one every week or two. Quite a few hand pumps, and they normally have several different offerings. Also, as every brewpub should, Mad Fox offers samples of any of their beers.
Overall, a great place to have nearby. I’ve also really enjoyed most of the beers that Bill has put on, and I’ve enjoyed the recent trend toward hoppier offerings. | | JPSHop07 (11), Virginia | | July 30, 2011 Really great, fresh beers and well worth a trip for a drink. The food is interesting and requires a long wait since the place is usually packed. Excellent selection from the beers made on site. I’m a local and enjoy this place for a good hang out and decent atmosphere, usually crowded though. | | mansquito (32), washington, Washington DC | | July 24, 2011 Went here on the Saturday and the bar was pretty full. We managed to get a table and were able to take advantage of the last ten minutes of Happy Hour. Place is built in the kind of post-modern architectural style. Not the most interesting place to look at, although there are some huge vats hanging about. Our server was a really nice girl, but she was occasionally forgetful. I don’t think she knew too much about beer, but was well-versed in the menu. They had enough beers on tap for a fine selection and I was able to try 6 in one day. However, I found some of the beers to be sort of mediocre, while others were quite tasty. We got some food too. I got the black bean burger with a side of soup. While the burger was adequately sized the soup may as well have been served in a shot glass. It was good, but it was a disgustingly small portion. Beers are not too expensive and on happy hour they are two dollars off. Overall I enjoyed this place, but it wasn’t perfect by any stretch. |
