78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 16/20 DiarmaidBHK (550) Pennsylvania | October 29, 2012 The Mad Mex locations in Pittsburgh all seem to be very similar in the interior is like Chipotle designed by Ralph Speedman. They have really good, damn good tex-mex food. If you like spice and heat this is your place. They also have 22-26 rotating taps of craft. As others have said, I can always find a few things I haven’t had before. The only critiicism I have of the place, besides somewhat indifferent service at times, is the draft prices are a little high. Still it’s fantastic food and great beer. Works for me. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 14/20 Beerman6686 (102) Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | May 17, 2012 very dark inside like all of the mad mex’s. Pretty good taplist, always a nice variety. Food is pretty solid for the price, beer is good but pricey thus why i went in the middle for value. Overall a place to get some good beer and quality mexican american food. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 DocLock (144) Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania | July 6, 2011 Ate here while en route to Cedar Point. First off, the place was a bit of a hole in the wall loaction-wise, but had a great patio and ambience. The beer menu was great. Flower Power, 90 Minute on tap, and a beer list that could have kept me busy for weeks. The food was out of this world. The chimichanga was flavorful, complex, spicy as hell, and the mango habanero salsa was incendiary and delicious. The service was OK, not great, but it was very crowded. A place I would love to have near me. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 Nate (259) Indiana, Pennsylvania | April 17, 2011 At this point, all of the Mad Mex restaurants are really the same, with a few tweaks here and there on the beer list, which is dependent on who their distributor is. Wasn’t impressed by our service, but it was 12:30 on a Saturday afternoon. Food was as good as the other locales. Best place to get a beer in Cranberry that I’ve found, especially since Hereford & Hops closed up shop. | 86 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 Zax (10) | February 7, 2011 The bar is fairly large, as is the beer selection on tap. They rotate the styles, so there is always something new and good to try. The wait staff is friendly and seemingly knowledgeable about what they are serving. Happy Hour is a great deal and great time to visit. Just expect it to be crowded at that time - especially on Thursday or Friday night. | 92 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 19/20 enchilada (1) Pennsylvania | August 31, 2008 A very funky place. Much darker than your typical restaurant. Usually a little louder than your typical restaurant. Always more fun than your typical restaurant. Great beer selection with constantly rotating taps. Wide selection of very good affordable beers with some other harder to find specialty and seasonal brews. Check it out ASAP!!! | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 roder60 (38) Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | May 6, 2008| Updated August 16, 2008 Like all Mad Mex’s: great food, nice beer selection of micros, and a nice atmosphere. Always something on the beer list I haven’t had. | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 20/20 beerczar69 (6) Pennsylvania | March 22, 2008 Great place if you like draft beer. The happy hour from 5 to 7 weekdays is great. All drafts are half off. The most resonable priced beer around and no 10% sales tax.The service is good and the food okay but i am not there for the food. About 24 drafts. I love this place. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 18/20 cheap (136) Cheap Lager in Western, Pennsylvania | December 29, 2007| Updated July 22, 2008 I know this place is just off the side of route 19 but I couldn’t find it the first three or four times I drove by it. Quite small but has a nice deck that is heated in the winter. Very friendly barkeeps. Seems to have more taps than the other MMs I.ve been to in Robinson and Oakland. Clean and new. Odd enough, this place has bottles on sale to. | 68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 13/20 MrBunn (72) Western, Pennsylvania | December 4, 2007| Updated July 22, 2008 Went with the family the other night to check things out. As far as the restaurant is concerned, food is decent, but not going to win any awards. Service was OK as well, and when I asked which bombers were available for carry out, the manager came over and was very helpful. The basic scene for beer is this: there is a really nice draft list with some pretty interesting offerings (although nothing that will blow your hair back too far) and a selection of carry out 12 ouncers and bombers. Prices for drafts are a bit high in my opinion... $4 to $6 seems a bit steep. Bomber prices were outrageous... $12 for a carry out bomber of Hoppin Frog or Rogue??!! Come on! The manager had a good selection of bombers to offer... nothing junky, but the pricing is double to triple what they would run you at an actual beer store. Stupid PA laws. |
