Mahrs Bräu Sommer Pils | 2.8% | 6/18/2023 |
66 Visited in June '23. Half an hour walk out of the city center. The weather was great, so we sat outside. Fairly large patio, plenty of sheltered seating. Had the Sommer Lager and Pils, both in mediocre shape. Service was typical for the region, grumpy but efficient. Had a good Schweinshaxe for a decent price. Didn't venture inside the building. Too bad Keesmann, opposite of Mahr's, was already closed. |
78 Nice, small and cozy inside (visited during the winter). Beers are perfectly fine. Less crowded than some of the usual suspects on the main streets, but the locals seems to find it here. |
78 Located in a less touristy, residential area of the city, this venue has a large biergarten and a traditiona interior. Good selection of both own and other local beers on tap and in bottles (5 + ca. 15). Very friendly staff. Tasty food, too, mostly traditional Bavarian dishes but also some more modern salads. |
78 We visited here Saturday 26th March 2022, we had done quite a lot of walking around the town. Mahrs Brau is about 15-20 mins walk from the railway station and a similar distance from the old town though a 905 bus will get you there in about 10-12 minutes.
We somehow managed to walk around the entire block before finding the entrance, not quite sure how we managed to do it but we did. It's a large place and on a sunny day was very popular, however, whilst we were able to sit outside, this area is not so big, so on a very warm day I would suggest getting here earlier. There was a lot of seating inside and some of the inside did feel like being outside as it appeared to be covered with a large fabric type sail. Other than visiting the toilet neither of us did much exploring of the inside, but it looked very traditional, lot's of wood and just a very Bavarian feel throughout.
It felt that this place was more popular with locals and visiting German citizens than international tourists. There was a large group of young guys about 18-20 of them on a neighbouring table, they were having a great time and causing no issues at all, however somehow they still seemed to incur the wrath of the older stern waitress who came on duty, what they had done other than pushing separate tables together I don't know, but she seemed the sort of person who you shouldn't argue with, and they didn't and instead headed off in good spirits.
Beers were great, service was good, and the atmosphere was fab'. I really liked it here and maybe a visit again and perhaps eat here might be nice. |
80 Visited in November 2019. Lovely to visit such an atmospheric place that happens to brew great beers too. Was quiet when I visited but I sensed it being a cosy place during quiet times and a lively place during busier times. The fact it is opposite Keesmann is a welcome bonus! Beer heaven would look something like this. |
68 Visited later in the evening. Large and a bit dark biergarten with what seemed like a lots of room inside (not used due to the pandemic situation). Selection was limited to 4 beers, but the quality was bit disappointing. Especially after walking for about 20 minutes to it. |
68 Visited on a Monday night at about 7 and were lucky to get a spot in the Biergarten without having to queue up. Shortly after our arrival, there was pretty much permanently a line. Did not eat but drank two beers, the Helles and a Pils, both of which were far above average for the style and pleasant drinking on a warm summer evening. Service was friendly if a bit inattentive. |
82 2019 July. So, where to begin... From the traditional local breweries, these guys are the most daring - on our visit theirs beer list boasted some liquids totally influenced by global craft brewing - dry hopping, mora daring amount of hops, exotic hops and so on. So if you are looking for some local product, which is not a) rauchbier b) U c) or any kind of traditional lager thats a place to go to. That's why for selection they get "15". We were quite dissapointed, that we were not allowed to stay indoors - in this way you cannot appreciate the awesome interiors and surroundings - and were forced to sit inbiergarten is biergarten. On the other hand, the lady serving our table was daring enought, to bring us some table water (it was 35 degrees celsius outside in the shadow, god have mercy) - which is almost a miracle by german standarts. To conclude - a place to go if you would love to try something local (excluding rauchbier) with a nice twist of craft beer influence. |
