| Beershine (540), The Sunshine State, Florida | | February 1, 2012 Keys feel as the rest of Marco island bars. Strip mall location but easy to forget that bc of the ambiance and crowd. And the lovely setting of The rock of course. The guest taps and bottle selections are impressive and different mostly from what we get in Miami. The house beers leave a lot to be desired but poured directly from the kettle, which is cool. Overall a good experience and not far from Big Cypress, which is a true natural gem. | MasterSki (6), Chicago, Illinois does not count - explanation | | November 9, 2011 Figured I’d try this place out, as it’s new and it’s the only brewpub anywhere close to Naples, FL. Stopped in on the way back from the Everglades.
The atmosphere is fairly generic tropical island restaurant - lots of cheerful colors. You can tell the place is new, as it’s very clean. Washrooms were quite nice too. One complaint is that people can smoke on the covered patio, and the smoke wafts in through the double-sided indoor/outdoor bar.
My family and I ordered a paddle of tasters and sampled each of the house beers. They ranged from mediocre to bad. The most egregious problem was theof styles. I’m actually in favor of brewpubs that specialize in low-ABV session beers, but if they choose to go that route then they should be accurate. The "stout" was basically an English Brown, the IPA was more of a English Pale, and the "Belgian" was basically a Blue Moon clone.
Servers were attentive, although that might have been because the bar was empty when we showed up. Staff were friendly and willing to chat, even if they didn’t know much about the brew system.
The guest drafts were actually pretty decent and only served to embarrass the house brews - Victory Golden Monkey, Blue Point Rastafa Rye Ale, and a Gordon Biersch Marzen. Bottle selection had some stuff from Kona, Blue Point, Victory, and Southern Tier - nothing wild but a good 25+ options.
Happy hour prices were crazy cheap. $3 for 25oz?!
If you’re stuck on Marco Island this would probably be your only option for decent beer, but I wouldn’t got out of my way to visit again. | | beernovice39 (146), South Carolina | | August 11, 2011 Located in the back of a strip mall. Open air bar area with many booths "inside". Great service from an adorable English lady. Beer leaves much room to improve. | | nick76 (91), Tampa, Florida | | February 1, 2011 The ambiance is generic sports bar with a couple of pool tables and dart boards in one room. And tables and a bar in the other The service slow and not to knowledgeable about the beer. Which is sad because the restaurant only offers 5 of their own beers of which 4 were available. Besides the slow service the staff was friendly. The food was better than average for a sports bar but the offerings were typical and nothing was made with the microbrew. The prices were about average for the area.Overall it’s not bad because it’s the only brewpub in the area but the beers and food were nothing special. | schmidtserland (3), Exton, Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | December 6, 2010 Went to the brewery last night. A brewery in SW Florida is a godsend but, unfortunately, they are experiencing growing pains. It’s also a sports bar and they have guest taps with Victory Golden Monkey as the most notable as of the writing. They told me last night that they will always have 5 of their beers on tap but they only had 4 for me to taste. Don’t waste your time on the wheat or stout. Get the pilsner. |
