BigJoe7231 (7), Schererville, Indiana does not count - explanation | | August 27, 2008 A neighborhood bar, times ten! A huge selection of beers on bottle/tap, pretty damn good food (I had a bacon cheeseburger), a good amount of plasma TVs and an overall nice place. I highly recommend this place next time anyone’s in Baltimore (Fells Point). | | JoeinUccle (135), Brussels, Belgium | | August 21, 2008 Had a great session here one afternoon with some buddies who took the day off work to drink beer. Long and varied tap and bottle lists make for great reading... It’s easy to make a sort of drinking plan for yourself while sipping on your first one. Great prices considering what’s on offer. Wings and burgers were not great, but who cares? Friendly barman. Hope to get back here someday. | Beads77 (1), does not count - explanation | | June 3, 2008 Made my first visit to Max’s Taphouse on May 30th, 2008 during my trip to see the Sox in Baltimore. Our initial reason for going was the ’largest selection of beer’ mantra they displayed and the buy 1 get one pint free coupon that comes with the Ed Kane’s water taxi. GREAT OFFER by the way. The Bartender on Friday was very knowledgable and was always paying attention to all the bar customers to make sure they were full. Great service Friday night. Asked us what beers we liked, etc and offered up some local suggestions and even let us sample a few of his favorites. I originally wanted a JW Lees Barley Wine, but he told me about the Magic Hat Chaotic 2000, let me sample and WOW what a selection that was. Helped explain to girlfriend a few of the local brews and compared them to one’s she knew. Very helpful. Are second trip was Sunday following the game and it was signiciantly more busy but the staff was on top of things. a little slow on the food service (had to order up at the bar) but the bartenders brought it to your table. Got the Queso and chips app (good stuff with a fantastic bite to it! good burgers (chili burger here) and she got shroom burger, all fairly reasonably priced. Would go back to and have told others about it also.
TIP: Hot days, sit in the back near the pool tables, Air Conditioning is very cold in that area. | | 00cobraR (26), Greensboro, North Carolina | | June 2, 2008 This place was great. They had around 60 taps there and who knows how many bottles. I stopped by twice on a recent trip to Baltimore. On Saturday night it was very crowded and was difficult to get service. The bathroom was in a cigar bar beside Maxs so you smelled terrible when you went to take a leak. Went on Sunday and it was much more enjoyable. Not that crowded and they were not playing extremely loud muusic. Had alot of Stone, Dogfish Head, Thristy Dog, local stuff, and a rediculous amount of belgian beers. If you at Fells Point, you need to drop by. Also if you take the water taxi you get a coupon for a buy one get one free coupon. | | nimbleprop (16), Washington, Washington DC | | May 18, 2008 I live in DC and Max’s is just a quick trip up I-95. Located in a trendy neighborhood called Fells Point, Max’s looks like just another bad from the outside. Inside there’s plenty of seating, a bunch of TV’s and a long, wood bar. The staff is very friendly and many are knowledgeable about the products they served. Haven’t had a chance to try their food yet, but there are excellent food options up and down the block. The two times I’ve been to Max’s they were in the middle of either their Belgian fest or American Beer fest. Each time they had close to 100 separate Belgian or American beers on tap, with rotating kegs throughout the course of the fest. The bottle selection is just as diverse with plenty of hard time find labels like Struise, Mikkeller, Fantome, etc etc etc. They even offer carry out on their bottle selection, a very nice perk. All in all, world class selection makes this a must stop when in Baltimore and even when you’re not. | | nearbeer (81), Knoxville, Tennessee | | April 16, 2008 [ Updated July 28, 2008 ] Great beer bar. Excellent barkeeps. Awesome selection. You can sample beers, they’ll split up a pint amongst 3 or 4 different beers for the price of a pint! Prices are reasonable. Could lose a few macros, but I guess they gotta cater to everyone. Food is just so-so, but who cares! | | swoopjones (80), Buffalo, New York | | March 31, 2008 Great place, great bartender & what a selection. Ten Fidy on tap!!! Two Italian Micros on tap. Every bottle you can almost imagine. Great appetizers (Pulled Pork Nachos & Crab Artichoke Dip) Bartenders Jamie & Jason were great. Too many Mileer & Coors Neons if had to find one thing wrong. But the selection............. | petvirus84 (1), Lorton, Virginia does not count - explanation | | February 13, 2008 [ Updated February 22, 2008 ] This place is fantastic. I spent the last month in Baltimore, and was there twice a week at least. Upon entering, you are greated with their ever-changing list of whats on tap (35-70 beers on any given night) which run the gambit from barely wine to pilsners, lambics to imperial pale ales. Hand pumps, too. I never even got to the bottles, but rest assured there are plenty. The food is pretty good, a little above typical bar food. The bar tenders were never anything but nice to me, although they are certainly more patient on a week night than 11pm on a Saturday (but what bartender isnt?) And if your a pint glass collector, be sure to check out their website for more info on the pinch-the-pint Wednesday happy hour special.
No more Cigars, though. Maryland’s smoking ban went into effect Feb 1st, 2008. | Skeegle (3), does not count - explanation | | January 1, 2008 You won’t find worse service anywhere in Baltimore than at Max’s. Their selection is fantastic, the best in Maryland, but if you live close enough to drive to Max’s for the night then you indubiously live close enough to Well’s liquors to find twenty times the selection without getting treated like ass by the bartenders. I live ten miles from Max’s, have been there half a dozen times, and the bartenders, at least for the last 18 months, make you wonder why you walked into the bar. Just go to Well’s and grab something better for less than $8 a pint. | | JFGrind (58), Glenside, Pennsylvania | | November 25, 2007 Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon, and the bar was filled up with a diverse clintele watching NFL Ticket. Bottle/Tap line-up is amazing, and vintage beers are also seldom seen in other bars. Beers prices were very reasonable. I too wish this bar was in my neighborhood. | View Page : 1 2 3 4 5
