Old, with character. On rhe main road into downtown. Not busy on Friday night; i think i was rhe only non local. Lots of wood. Apparently the 5th oldest new England brewery. A dozen taps and a cask pout, evenly split between house and guest beers. Prompt service. 10oz and 3 oz sample pours, plus flights. I think i saw the brewing equipment under the parking structure next door. Fun place to visit.

Interesting place with a giant’ wooden chair in the corner. Kind of has a corner bar feel to it. However, 16 beers on tap. Flatbread pizza was solid and most importantly, Ray spent time telling me where local playgrounds were so I could take my little one.

Whatever I was expecting, it wasn’t this! McNeill’s is quirky and a little odd, although it might have seemed less so had it been busier. On a Friday evening, there were only about ten people there, including a small boy who was playing football with a customer. The decor is quirky too. There are grotesque masks, old fashioned cartoons and sketches on the walls, tinsel around a pendant lamp on the bar (a little early for Christmas I thought), a huge wavy rough hewn paddle over the back of the bar and a smoother one over the window. There’s also a giant’s throne made of wood, a hook game, a dart board and only one television, discreetly placed over the door. There are thirteen kegs and three casks and four of the taps come out of a shiny wooden cat’s head dispenser. (Visited 9 November 2012).

Might be one of the few on here, but I really wasn’t impressed with this place at all. I tried Dawghouse and barely could finish it - it smelled like turpentine. The ambiance, well, - its dive bar-ish, and not as clean as some other dive bars I’ve been to, so, point deducted. Service for a Friday wasn’t bad, but wasn’t great. I really can’t see myself going back.

A nice place to relax and enjoy history! I would have like more beer selections (there were 2-3 beers that were not available) but beers that were available were decent. Very cheap flight with a nice pour. Definitely a place to stop by when in the area

This brewpub has been around since ratebeer was invented, and its the oldest brewing brewery in Vermont - so go figger why some think it looks like a good old dive - IT IS! But in a good way! Visited on a dark rainy summer night. A few locals hangen out. Note that this is not a place for younger self made beer preppies; this is a place for those that can recognize the atmosphere of an old European country pub. Key words here are old & traditional; lots of old detailed wood carvings and an aroma that can be not mistaken for anything but beer brewing experience. They had so many beer styles on tap, I had to come back 2 days in a row! Pleasant friendly girl behind the bar that will do anything for you! Yes, friendly, low key nifty place that is just what beer drinken is all about. If you are looking for a modern 9 inch shiny brass elbow that breaks out into 100 beer taps behind a shiny stainless steel wall all underneath a blackened roof in a sterile warehouse atmosphere, go someplace else, you’ll be disappointed. This place is simply a good old country brewpub with laid back atmosphere and an environment that is friendship safe! It has been unaffected by the wave of craft beer wannah bees that have hit the scene in the last 10 years. I love this place, IT’S GREAT! Had to go out of my place to go here but if you are an elderly master, you must check it out. Most all the beers had a wild attitude about them, yum!

This is an old brewpub/dive bar. I liked the ambiance but the beers just weren’t very good. Probably would never return.

Total dive bar. Dark and not at all busy when we were there on a Saturday evening. Smaller pours are available if you’re trying to tick. Other than that, there are plenty of draft-only selections, and the beer it self is decent. They also have board games to play. Really kind of an odd place that left me with no desire to ever go back.

Quirky seems to be the word of the day in these reviews, can’t argue with that. Went their about 6 - 6:30 on a Saturday, one other person there but if you like beer, stop here. Don’t be turned off by the outside, this isn’t your up-scale Boston/NY brew pub with suits having $10 drafts, just a great little brew pub 5 minutes off I 91. A dozen + of there own drafts plus 3 cask brews, bartender was helpful, offered samples, answered questions. Only regret was we didn’t have more time to try more beers. Absolutely would stop there again.

As I entered McNeils the patrons at the bar next door were lighting flares and throwing them into the street. A metaphor of things to come perhaps? Shockingly the place was deader than disco inside. I didn’t t the scene. The bartender was pleasant enough. What annoyed me was the beer. They do t seem to brew anything to style. Sometimes you just want a Brown ale to taste like a brown ale and not a sour. I probably wouldn’t go back if I was in the area again.
