This is what a college bar should be except with much better beer. The location is fantastic right across the street from UVA in the corner. The had about 40 taps mostly local and national craft. The bartender was very knowledgeable about his beer and made two excellent suggestions. The prices are very reasonable with most of the pints going for $4 plus they have good happy hour specials. The vibe was friendly and relaxed. It’s the kind of place you could easily waste all day in but then again with this many taps it wouldn’t be a waste. They also, and if I were UVA admissions I’d print this in the viewbook, deliver beer.

One of the better mellow mushrooms I have been to. The bartender was knowledgeable and made some great recommendations for local beers to try. the decor is less trippy then some of the other mellow mushrooms, which means they aren’t wasting space on giant mushroom sculptures or airstream trailers. They have 40 taps, 25% local, and a recently expanded to 25 with more to come.

This is a nice Mellow Mushroom located on/near the UVA campus. We strolled in late as the kitchen was closing, which was not an issue at all. We ordered our beers at the bar and sat outside on the patio until 2 am sipping on a few beers from their nice selection. This is a typical Mellow Mushroom otherwise.

Great place to have a nice pizza and a beer. Better selection then most and a great college spot.

I do love pizza, and Mellow Mushroom makes delicious pizza. I gave a high Ambiance score because I like their trippy decor, but it can be insanely loud in here. They also have a good beer selection (especially for a pizza joint!), mostly American micros, as I recall. The service is fine, but nothing special. They like to hire cute waitresses, and they visit the table pretty frequently, but as far as beer goes, there’s not much they can do for you (though they do know what they have, etc. which is good).

Was in on a Sunday afternoon and sat at the bar. The service was good, wide selection of beers, reasonably priced, especially considering the location. Will most likely be darkening their door again sometime.

40 taps with plenty of good stuff (usually including a couple double IPAs and imperial stouts), though nothing really rare. Where they really shine is value. Imperials are not usually priced any higher than the other beers, and pints are $2.50 during happy hour. I don’t care for the pizza much myself, and it’s usually crowded and noisy with mediocre service.

Decent selection of beers on tap, for a college bar. Great pizza. Try the Parmesan pretzels! Crowded at nights with college students, which is a plus or a minus, depending on what you are looking for.

A long time since I originally reviewed this place, so time for a redo. About 40 or so taps, mostly with good stuff though there’s not a terribly high amount of turnover and nothing too rare. Prices are decent. The staff ranges from competent to dreadful. None know too much about the beer. Ambience is OK. Lots of college types around, which can sometimes be a buzzkill. I’ve never been while the kitchen has been open, but I did get a pizza once to go that was slightly above average. The benefit is that these guys are open late on Sunday nights when everything else is closed.
