| Ernesto987 (54), Connecticut | | March 13, 2012 Great pizza, smart staff and had espresso yeti and mexican cake on draft. Need I say more? Actually about 50 or so more great craft brews on draft. A full 16oz pint glass of yeti was $6!!! Thats what Im talking ABOUT! | | blipp (68), Newark, New Jersey | | January 7, 2012 Stopped in for a light lunch. About 25 total draft options, 5 or 6 of which were South Carolina locals. Food was fine, exactly what we expected. Our server was outstanding, chatted about the local beers, recommended other craft beer bars in the area, etc. Nothing worth going out of the way for, I guess, but I would definitely stop in again for lunch. Solid overall, I would have no hesitation stopping by again if I’m in town. Flights of 4 5oz samples were $7. Can’t beat it. | | craftycarl21 (59), Washington, Washington DC | | April 30, 2011 Went here for lunch and grabbed a COAST HopArt, which was pretty damn good. Solid taps selection (15-20?), pretty good food, though very expensive for a chain. Definitely a chain feel- gimmicky slogans, decent but not great food, etc. Also, service is incredibly slow; so slow that they make one of their mottos "worth the wait" as if that’s an excuse for bad service. Still, some good beer on tap. Check it out if you’re on King Street. | larrewl (5), South Carolina does not count - explanation | | March 2, 2011 I’ve loved pizza and beer since I was in high school (when drinking was legal at 18). Those years it was just Bud and I’ve naturally expanded my horizon a little since then, preferring a craft ale (brown, amber, red, pale) depending on the pizza I’m eating. This Mellow Mushroom offers very good pizza and several excellent craft beers to complement whatever you order here. The other reviews cover the rest. If you want pizza and beer in downtown charleston, this is the place to go. | | Boungustatio (18), | | June 20, 2010 I think Mellow Mushroom has the best pizza in Charleston. Andolini’s is pre-made until you say what toppings you want...the rest are bad chains.
Mellow Mushroom never tastes like chain pizza and their selection never screams sell out. They always have a fantastic selection of craft beer. Usually multiple from the same brewery. I’ve been their for Foothills brewery events and enjoyed barrel-aged Seeing Double IPA during their Sunday Night Trivia.
My father and I shared one of my first craft beers: Samuel Smith’s Oatmeal Stout there during the holidays one year. They now offer growler fills!
Did I tell you how amazing their pizza is? | | quiquesan (15), Miami, Florida | | August 30, 2009 Pizza chain with a good beer selection. Nice place to grab a beer and have a some pizza. Place was really affordable. | vanwilder (7), Myrtle Beach, South Carolina does not count - explanation | | March 13, 2009 not bad as far as MM’s go... better than the one here in myrtle but less knowledgeable about the beers offered... | | aracauna (55), Georgia | | February 16, 2009 This was actually one of the better bars we visited in Charleston. The upstairs bar is actually pretty cooler. It looks like it may be the the top end as far as Mellow Mushroom goes, and they had incredible music playing the night we visited. Seriously, how often are you going to hear Iron and Wine played in a bar? The beer selection was a little better than what was on tap at Charleston Beer Works, but would easily be surpassed in a larger city. Sadly I missed being able to get a pint of Coast Brewing’s Black Beerd Imperial Stout by a single day here.
My only complaint is that they put the very cool and well-stocked bar on the top floor. Seriously, how are they going to expect drunk people to make it down that spiral staircase without falling to serious injury. Luckily, I stopped after a Victory Storm King and an Atlanta Brewing Bogart.
As for food, I really like Mellow Mushroom’s pizza and pretzels. They’ve got some of the best crust (texture and taste) of any chain pizza place I’ve ever been. | tribeincident (4), sc, South Carolina does not count - explanation | | February 13, 2009 if you want to drink a good beer in charleston.. this is one of just a few places wher you can get many great beers, and not be spending a arm and a leg | | Beershine (540), The Sunshine State, Florida | | February 6, 2009 Above-average Mellow Mushroom because they offer some of SC’s top brews. Split-level with the more family restaurant vibe downstairs and the bar area upstairs. Can watch sports here. They get overwhelmed when super crowded but otherwise good service. |
