| lachrymalisis (10), Pennsylvania | | March 20, 2012 Good experience. Draft selections lef6t a bit to be desired, but a decent bottle menu. I found a bottle of Cuvee du 7eme and enjoyed it with my chicken confit, which was good, but a bit soggy.
Nice casual atmosphere, laid back crowd, and attentive yet down to earth service.
Not every week, but I’ll be back when I’m in the area. | | jredmond (111), Manhattan, New York | | February 19, 2012 Visited this place during Philly Beer week 2011 - can’t remember for which event though. Nice bar, however I’ll need to return for a proper review as the place was super crowded. | | aj1451 (12), Vancouver, British Columbia | | February 10, 2012 Best Brisket in Philadelphia, and Mushroom Ragu as well. This place is about the food and the bar provided a solid base. Russian River Damnation was on tap when I went and I had a super fresh lager that night as well. Reviewed seperately. It can get busy I was told due to a food network tv show that filmed an episode here, but the folks working here were genuine and really nice. I wish I went here more. | | italianjohn (127), Penndel, Pennsylvania | | February 5, 2012 [ Updated February 7, 2012 ] Went on a sat night around 7pm the wait was 30-45 mins for a table ... looks like a neighborhood corner bar front room is rectangular with a long bar back room is equal in size but is filled with all of the tables for dinner service .... small but great taplist with a mix of local, micro and european with a couple of aged rarities .... bartenders were awesome and prompt for it being so crowded ... the bottle list of 200+ beers had a nice mix of styles and vintages and you get 20% off for takeout brews (scored a Thomas Hardy 08 ale) .... the food well there is a small warning that they fry everything in 100% peanut oil so beware if your allergic (I’m not thank God) the fried pickles, cheese plate and chicken fried chicken were excellent and everyone else in my party loved their food too .... brews were like 5-6 bucks and food ranges from 8 bucks to 16-19 for entrees .... overall I’d definitely come back here again and the neighborhood is mostly irish and I had no problems at all | | TURDFERGUSON (117), Carrboro, North Carolina | | July 26, 2011 We came here on Thursday night of RBSG 2011. Got a big long table in the back and just started ordering stuff off the bottle list. Food was pretty tasty as well. Great service. | | jmm635 (66), Havertown, Pennsylvania | | May 23, 2011 Stopped in on a Saturday night about 7pm. I think it goes without saying that it was super crowded and we waited about an hour for a table for 5. Jam packed up front at the bar so I can’t even say it was a comfortable wait. Limited, but high quality selection of brews on tap. The food was good, but nothing to right home about. I probably will not be back unless I’m in the neighborhood. | | Capa (172), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania | | May 14, 2011 [ Updated June 8, 2011 ] Went there for dinner on a Friday night so of course it was packed. We offered to sit outside but you can only order food from the hotdog truck when in the Beer Garden. That is not a put down on the joint but we wanted dinner so opted to wait about 20 minutes for a table in the fairly small dining room. Bartender was a good guy and nice to my girl even though she kept trying to order cocktails they don’t have the ingredients for (they are a beer bar so the cocktail list isn’t extensive). The fish and chips was outstanding, as were the fried pickles. The beer selection was very nice and I had a Blind Pig and a cask Seven Giraffes. The vintage bottle list was fairly extensive with a lot of nice offerings. I will definitely go back and check out the beer garden hot dog truck. | | Steeeve (34), Ambler, Pennsylvania | | April 30, 2011 Fairly small bar without much room to stand around. Our bartender was awesome that day. Didnt catch his name but he had long hair. Was very quick, and seemed to be very knowledgeable without coming off as a contrite douche like a lot of craft beer tenders. Tap selection is not the biggest, but had quality brews in various styles, and they had tapped Pliny that day. Food is uh-maze-ing. The fried pickles are the best on earth. Didnt eat anything else in the bar, but the hot dog truck outside served up some gourmet hot dogs and fried pickles as well. I think there were 7 or 8 canned beer options out there. The new beer garden seemed like a nice place to hang out, though it was raining when I went. Prices are pretty solid. I think it was only $6 each for Pliny the Elder and Firestone Walker Reserve. Awesome place, but I have to unfortunately dock it a few points for location. It’s a pain in the ass to get to, frankly. The area around the bar is nice, but go a few blocks in either direction and you’ll be in some very shady areas. I live 18 miles away in the burbs, and it took close to an hour to get there. | | vze1mhay (14), Stroudsburg, | | February 9, 2011 Small neighborhood place. Went on a Saturday night and had to wait for table. even though it was packed the staff was very attentive and friendly. Beer selection was a good tap selection with Fullers London Pride on cask. Extensive bottle selection and the food was unremarkable. | acurtis (7), New Jersey does not count - explanation | | November 24, 2010 [ Updated January 3, 2011 ] Stopped here before Fistful of Mercy show. From the outside it looks unexpecting, the sign is dark and rusted. "Are you sure this is it?" said my companion. "Yes" I said, "Are you sure they are open?" as we walked in. Small cozy bar with about 10 seats. There are also a few small tables in the bar area. Towards the back is a dinning area that I did not enter. The tender was friendly and very cool. We chatted about the brews on tap and other breweries including RR as he had just been there. I was happy to see a lot of darker brews on tap. I ended up trying Great Divide Baltic Porter, Yards Love Stout and Stouterik. Each were quite good. Other taps included Walt Wit, Port Older Viscosity, Maduro Brown, Lagunitas IPA and others I can’t recall. Their website is kept up to date as the taps change frequently. There was a large bottle selection behind the bar, it was nice to see that it wasn’t all taken up with hard liquor. I also noticed an amazing glass selection behind the bar but most drinks went out in shakers, except my Stouterik, which was served in a tulip. This is my kind of place, quiet and full of friendly locals. All we had to eat was a cheeseburger and it was quite good. I’ll be back in Philly next week and I’m planning on stopping back in. |
